Job Title: Treasury Accountant
Location: Milton Keynes (3 days onsite, 2 days remote)
Contract Length: 2 months (with potential for extension)
Day Rate: £350 via Umbrella company
Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Treasury Accountant to support the delivery of high‑quality treasury and cashbook operations within a regulated financial services environment.
This is a senior role, pivotal to ensuring the accuracy, integrity and efficiency of treasury operations, including cash management, liquidity, reconciliations and financial reporting. The successful candidate will oversee daily treasury processes, ensure compliance with internal controls and regulatory frameworks, and support continuity across treasury functions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily treasury operations, ensuring accurate and timely cash reconciliations, payment processing and transaction monitoring.
- Review and monitor treasury activity completed by junior team members, maintaining high standards of accuracy and compliance.
- Manage short‑term liquidity using internal and external funding sources, ensuring cost‑effective and timely availability of funds.
- Utilise intercompany funding options where appropriate to optimise cash utilisation and minimise funding costs.
- Review and approve daily trading deal requests, ensuring compliance with company policy, risk frameworks and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor bank accounts and cash positions to ensure effective use of facilities and optimum liquidity management.
- Work closely with Treasury colleagues, Finance, Controlling and Accounting teams to ensure forecasted cash flows are complete and aligned with business activity.
- Maintain and update working files supporting the "cost of money" P&L line, ensuring accuracy of funding and interest rate data.
- Lead month‑end treasury accounting activities, including journals, accruals, variance analysis and forecast commentary.
- Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring issues are identified and resolved promptly.
- Monitor market developments (interest rates, inflation and macroeconomic trends) and assess their impact on funding costs and P&L volatility.
- Provide cross‑cover across treasury functions, including Middle Office, Risk and Planning, to ensure continuity during periods of absence.
- Support senior treasury colleagues as required to ensure uninterrupted treasury operations.
Education, Training and Experience
- Qualified accountant or studying towards a relevant UK qualification (e.g. ACCA, CIMA, ACT or AAT).
- Proven experience in treasury or finance roles, ideally within financial services or banking.
- Strong experience in cash management, treasury controls and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Advanced Excel skills and strong proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Working knowledge of SAP or similar financial systems.
