We are looking to recruit a Technical Author to join a global provider of IT products and services, Digital Transformation Projects and Business Solutions.

The role of the Technical Author will be to work with uur customer on an existing project to implement a content management system from scratch in accordance with the S1000D international specification. Once this is established, the TA must then produce concise and accurate technical documentation based on information taken from a variety of sources.

The TA will be required to work at Basingstoke (subject to Covid restrictions) and occasional visits to the customer site in Corsham Wiltshire. The project is an IT system with the usual server/data centre equipment and transportable systems, the candidate should be familiar with common IT equipment usage and configurations.

The selected candidate must provide evidence of technical expertise in the co-ordination, design and implementation of S1000D technical documentation strategy, which is to include details about the Data Module Requirements List (DMRL) and the Publication Data Base (PDB) as used to track, manage, store and retrieve documents and reduce paper‑based output. It is essential for the TA to have a technical/engineering background in order to produce artefacts in a coherent and comprehensible language, and that they are not only competent but experienced in the use of software authoring programs, including but not limited to: MS Office, Adobe FrameMaker, Isodraw, CAPS2000 and Eagle Publishing System (EPS), CorelDraw.

The key skills required for this role are:

  • Capability to establish an S1000D compliant content management programme from scratch

  • Ability to interpret and assimilate basic technical data

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Good interpersonal, communication and team-working skills, to gather information from colleagues

  • Ability to express technical information clearly and briefly in simple English, as appropriate to its intended audience

  • Proven documentation skills to a high‑level, with an in‑depth working knowledge of MS Office applications and other defined publications packages

The role is permanent and available to start from February 2020.
