Senior Mechanical Engineer - Rotating Equipment

An exciting opportunity for a Senior Mechanical Engineer - Rotating Equipment to join a Process Systems Team within the Oil & Gas sector, that provide state-of-the-art flow control products, systems and services to companies around the world.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate customer enquiries and specifications and select or recommend pump type, driver and auxiliary system designs (mechanical seal, lube oil, etc) for the application. Includes determining the required scope of work to be provided and developing the best strategy to win the technical proposal.

  • Produce data sheets, specifications and technical requisitions for major buy out equipment (static, rotating and packaged) and ancillaries such as mechanical seal systems, lubrication systems, drivers and gearboxes

  • Work with Vendors to size and select equipment to match specifications or clearly define differences (clarifications or exceptions list) to customer. Technically evaluating vendor quotations to meet required application and specifications, reviewing and commenting on vendor documentation.

  • Attend and / or chair Vendor bid clarification meetings, kick off meetings and design review meetings as required. Visiting vendors and fabricators during pre-award, manufacture and factory acceptance testing and final inspection activities.

  • Assist in Producing and reviewing Installation, Operating (Start-up and Shut-down) & Maintenance Instruction manuals, including lists for Consumables, Special Tools, Lubricants, and Utilities.

  • Provide technical support for troubleshooting.

  • Advise and assist Construction Managers, QA/QC, Logistics and Sub-suppliers with the interpretation and clarification of documents

  • Provide input to the "Lessons learned" process and utilize findings from the process to update tools and processes.

  • Follow engineering project schedule, coordinate design work with the global resource as applicable, input to man-hour estimates and utilize MOC process.

  • Knowledge share in the development of others and Produce training materials and run training sessions

Qualifications

  • Minimum Bachelor of Science Degree (BEng or BSc) OR a Master Degree (MEng or MSc) in Mechanical Engineering, or Equivalent.

  • 10+ years' experience within the Oil & Gas, Petrochemical or Water Industry.

  • Extensive experience with Mechanical Rotating Equipment.

  • Mandatory knowledge of API 610, API 674, API 675, API 676, API 682 rotating equipment guidelines.

  • Highly competent in specification and evaluation of rotating equipment.

  • Demonstrable knowledge of NORSOK M-650 / NORSOK M-630 / NORSOK M-601 qualification and requirements

  • Knowledge of national and international codes and standards for oil field process equipment design, shop fabrication procedures, inspection and NDE requirements, shipping preparation terms and field installation and start up procedures.

  • Significant experience with witness inspections, performance testing and factory acceptance testing of rotating equipment.

  • Knowledge of ASME B&PV Code Selection VIII, Div. 1/2, EN 13445 and PD5500 Code and ASME B.31-3 Standards would be advantageous, as would an understanding of the various raw material types, grades and selection criteria (e.g. various ASTM grades and EN grades).

  • Knowledge of technical requirements for LV and HV electric motors for rotating equipment would also be advantageous.
