My leading client has an immediate requirement for an experienced Senior IT Portfolio PMO Analyst you will take ownership of the technology portfolio and bring structure, clarity, and high‑quality reporting to a fast‑paced, high‑volume environment. This is a rare opportunity to build portfolio processes from the ground up and shape how technology delivery is governed across the organisation.

Overview

You will provide strategic, portfolio‑level oversight of all IT programmes and projects, ensuring visibility, prioritisation, and alignment across the business. You'll design and embed a fit‑for‑purpose governance framework, create robust reporting processes, and drive continuous improvement in how we plan, track, and deliver technology change.

This role is hands‑on, analytical, and highly influential-ideal for someone who thrives in a dynamic environment and enjoys building structure where it's needed most.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain a clear, end‑to‑end view of the full IT portfolio, including status, financials, risks, issues, and dependencies, ensuring senior leaders have a reliable single version of the truth.
  • Design, implement, and embed portfolio‑level reporting processes that provide early visibility of emerging concerns and drive timely escalation and intervention.
  • Produce high‑quality, data‑driven reporting and dashboards, with a strong emphasis on accuracy, insight, and continuous improvement.
  • Challenge and support Project Managers to improve the quality of delivery plans, ensuring credible milestones and realistic forecasts.
  • Maintain portfolio‑level insight into resource capacity and constraints, highlighting conflicts and risks that could impact delivery.
  • Identify cross‑project dependencies, risks, and issues, escalating with clear recommendations to support effective decision‑making.
  • Provide portfolio assurance and champion improvements to governance, processes, and ways of working.
  • Build trusted relationships with PMs, delivery teams, and senior stakeholders across the business.

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Proven experience in a Senior Portfolio Analyst, Portfolio Manager, or PMO role.
  • Demonstrable experience building portfolio or PMO processes from scratch.
  • Strong analytical capability with the ability to turn data into clear, actionable insight.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including Power Query, complex formulas, data modelling, and automation of reporting.
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Confident communicator able to challenge, influence, and support senior stakeholders.
  • Comfortable working independently and setting direction without close supervision.
  • Experience working in fast‑moving, high‑volume, or evolving environments.

Desirable

  • Experience using Jira and Confluence to support portfolio reporting and governance.
  • Knowledge of project and portfolio management best practice.
  • Experience in housebuilding, construction, or similarly fast‑paced operational industries.

Qualifications

  • A recognised project, programme, or portfolio management qualification (e.g., APM, MoP, PRINCE2) is beneficial but not essential.
