Job description

Our client is looking for an experienced Senior SQL server Database Administrator within the IT Infrastructure team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background of operational database administration and support in financial services operational environments. They will have experience of working with and understanding complex systems in addition to good practice methods and are able to apply them quickly and efficiently to provide best value for the business.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support across all SQL Database environments
  • Provide operational support for DB issues initiated from Incidents or Changes
  • Work on projects and provide effective support to project teams to ensure the smooth transition of new databases and initiatives into the Production environment

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years database administration ideally in banking or Business Critical IT environments
  • Experience of supporting Production, User Acceptance, Test and Development databases
  • Excellent working knowledge of SQL2016/2019/2022
  • Experience using a scripting language to automate tasks and processes
  • Experience of monitoring and alerting tools for DBs
  • Backup and Recovery of mission critical systems

Skills and Knowledge

  • Ability to multi-task and deliver projects on time and to budget
  • Good practice database administration
  • Good team player & mentor
  • Ability to adapt to new technologies and problem solving using own initiatives where required
  • Good practice change management (e.g. ITIL)
  • Proactive, hands-on approach, self-starter and able to take initiatives
  • Strong inter-personal skills with ability to communicate effectively at all levels
  • Highly structured, organised and meticulous approach to work, with strong analytical skills and a determined approach with an eye for detail.
  • Flexible and adaptable e.g. to smaller working environments
  • Strong self-motivation

Desired skills/background

  • Experience working in financial services
  • Strong in both Oracle and SQL
