Senior AWS Platform Engineer (Kubernetes Specialism)

Location: London, UK Remote working

£550 per day Inside IR35

Active Home Office SC Clearance required

Contract until End of March, with an additional 6 months

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Platform Engineer with deep expertise in Kubernetes and Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS). This role will focus on designing, building, and maintaining scalable, secure, and resilient container platforms that enable our engineering teams to deliver applications efficiently and reliably. Leveraging your expertise in cloud technologies and best practices, you will work closely with tenants to architect, implement, and optimise solutions. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive innovation and deliver exceptional value to our customers.

Responsibilities

Platform Design & Implementation: -

  • Architect and manage Kubernetes clusters using Amazon EKS.
  • Implement best practices for cluster security, networking, and resource management.
  • Design and maintain multi-environment Kubernetes platforms for development, staging, and production.
  • Designing and implementing best practices around Kubernetes Upgrade, and Disaster Recovery patterns
  • Substantial experience in containerisation technologies such as Docker, Podman or Openshift.

Automation & Infrastructure as Code: -

  • Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools like Terraform or AWS CDK.
  • Automate cluster provisioning, upgrades, and scaling.
  • Integrate Kubernetes with CI/CD pipelines using push and pull based models for seamless application deployment.
  • Experience of deploying and managing GitOps agents such as ArgoCD and/or Flux to automate cluster deployments is desired.

Reliability & Performance: -

  • Monitor and optimize cluster performance, cost, and resource utilization.
  • Implement observability solutions for Kubernetes workloads (e.g., Dynatrace, Cloudwatch, Prometheus, Grafana).
  • Troubleshoot and resolve platform-related incidents and performance issues.

Security & Compliance: -

  • Apply Kubernetes security best practices (RBAC, network policies, secrets management).
  • Ensure compliance with organizational and regulatory standards.
  • Manage container image security and vulnerability scanning.

Collaboration & Enablement: -

  • Work closely with development teams to provide guidance on containerization and deployment strategies.
  • Create documentation and provide training on Kubernetes and EKS usage.
  • Advocate for platform engineering best practices across the organization.

Skills

  • Platform Engineering: Proficiency in designing and implementing scalable, resilient, and secure cloud platforms.
  • Security - Substantial experience in following and implementing security best practices for Kubernetes clusters and in a public cloud environment.
  • High Availability - Experience of implementing high availability strategies including Disaster Recovery and Upgrade procedures for Kubernetes clusters.
  • Automation: Experience with infrastructure-as-code (IaC) practices, automation tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible) and scripting languages (e.g. Python, Ruby).
  • Container Orchestration: Knowledge of container orchestration platforms (e.g., Kubernetes) and their managed counterparts (e.g., EKS, AKS, GKE).
  • Public Cloud Expertise: Understanding of cloud services, architecture, and best practices in one or more major public cloud providers (AWS, GCP).
  • DevOps Practices: Strong experience with CI/CD pipelines, version control systems, and containerisation technologies (e.g., Docker).

Experience

  • Project Leadership: Demonstrated experience delivering cloud migration, optimisation, or transformation projects.
  • Client-Facing Experience: Proven track record of engaging with clients, understanding their requirements, and delivering solutions that exceed expectations.
  • Team Collaboration: Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams, communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, and drive consensus.
  • Continuous Learning: Commitment to staying abreast of industry trends, participating in professional development activities, and obtaining relevant certifications.

Qualifications

Certification in relevant cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, GCP) at an associate level is highly desirable, e.g.:

  • AWS Certified: Solutions Architect Associate
  • AWS Certified: Solutions Architect Professional

Certification in Kubernetes administration is desirable:

  • Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA)
  • Certified Kubernetes Security Specialist (CKSS)
