Job Title: SAP Test Lead

Role Purpose
The SAP Test Lead is accountable for the quality of the end-to-end ERP solution delivered as part of a large-scale SAP transformation programme.
Role Overview / Scope
We are working with a large, complex UK retail organisation undergoing a major ECC to S/4HANA transformation.
As the SAP Test Lead, you will define and lead the end-to-end assurance and testing strategy across the programme. Acting as a central leadership point across Finance SMEs, Digital & Technology teams, and System Integrator partners, you will build and manage a high-performing test function to ensure full end-to-end coverage across Finance and operational processes.
This role will play a critical part in delivering an audit-compliant solution within a highly integrated enterprise environment.
You will also leverage AI-enabled tools to accelerate testing activities, improve defect analysis, and optimise regression coverage.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and own the overall testing strategy across:
- Unit Testing
- System Integration Testing (SIT)
- User Acceptance Testing (UAT)
- Regression Testing
- Integration Testing
- Cutover and Go-Live phases
- Build, structure, and lead the end-to-end testing team (internal and third-party resources)
- Establish governance frameworks, quality gates, and reporting aligned with programme leadership
- Work closely with Finance SMEs to ensure full end-to-end process coverage, including:
- General Ledger (GL)
- Accounts Payable (AP)
- Accounts Receivable (AR)
- Fixed Assets
- Controlling
- Financial Reporting
- Drive cross-functional testing across integrated systems and dependencies
- Lead defect governance and prioritisation based on financial risk and business impact
- Implement AI-driven approaches to:
- Accelerate test script generation
- Optimise regression coverage
- Analyse defect trends
- Support dress rehearsals, go-live readiness, hypercare, and transition to BAU
- Drive end-to-end test automation where appropriate
- Select and implement appropriate tools to support the testing lifecycle
- Support cutover activities, including planning and quality assurance
Key Skills & Experience
Essential
- 5-10 years' SAP testing experience, with strong focus on Finance (FI/CO)
- Proven experience defining testing strategy within SAP transformation programmes (ECC to S/4HANA preferred)
- Experience building and leading test teams in large, complex organisations
- Experience working with System Integrators within structured delivery environments
- Strong stakeholder management across Finance, Technology, and delivery partners
- Experience using AI or automation within testing environments
- Familiarity with testing tools and experience in tool selection
Desirable
- Exposure to SAP Retail concepts
- Experience working within Agile delivery environments (e.g. Scrum, Kanban)
- Understanding of retail operations and master data structures
- Retail sector experience
