The location of the role is London / remote.

The pay rate on offer is £200 - £250 per day.

The client is a large, multinational high-street retailer.

The client's Food business is changing and growing fast!

We are undergoing one of the biggest transformations in retailing today to build a bigger, better, fresher food business.

We are growing our Packaging team to accelerate delivery of our business commitments and innovation agenda whilst also ensuring we have a robust governance and compliance programme that meets our legal obligations.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone that is looking to expand their knowledge of packaging substrates, sourcing and the retail packaging development process.

We are looking for a new Packaging specification technologist to drive robust and accurate packaging data, specifications and associated reporting. Your role will be instrumental in delivering our business obligations and the food packaging strategy.

You will have excellent communication skills, an eye for detail and a keen interest to learn and adapt in a fast moving environment.

Key accountabilities

  • Delivery of accurate and up to date food packaging data to fulfil business plan A commitments and legal obligations.
  • Review and sign-off of all packaging specifications ensuring suppliers are entering accurate and complete information in line with business requirements.
  • Liaise with suppliers to ensure specification data is accurate and completed to required timelines.
  • Support development and roll-out of supplier training to drive accuracy of information.
  • Act as first point of contact for supplier queries on FIND Packaging specs
  • Complete internal audits to validate data accuracy
  • Support Packaging Technology team with collation and reporting of accurate packaging data for robust internal and external reporting. g. Plan A, Packaging obligations & UK Plastic Pact
  • Provide data analysis, identify trends, root causes and opportunities to deliver efficiencies and make recommendation for the implementation of these e.g. material changes.
  • Create and manage corrective action plans to resolve issues, prevent re-occurrence and target continuous improvement or cost mitigation.
  • Understand and interpret information for non-technical colleagues.
  • Support Packaging Technologists to deliver business change initiatives e.g. Plan A and preparation for upcoming plastic tax, DRS and EPR legislation.
  • Analyse performance of packaging specification system and suggest areas for improvement, system upgrades to meet future business requirements

Key skills

  • Relevant packaging qualification or previous experience working in packaging related role.
  • Broad understanding of packaging materials and associated recyclability.
  • Broad understanding of packaging production process at the packaging supplier and food manufacturer.
  • Ability to collect, analyse, interpret and present technical information from multiple sources in a clear, substantial and concise fashion.
  • Ability to prioritise and deliver accurate information to deadlines
  • Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify solutions to problems
  • Strong communication and people skills.
  • Structured, proactive and detail orientated
  • Flexible & adaptable in a rapidly changing business environment.
  • Strong digital skills including working knowledge of Excel, Powerpoint.
  • Experience with Microsoft Teams and Power BI is a bonus.
  • An understanding of packaging governance and compliance within the food industry is preferable, however not crucial.
