Marine Mechanical Fitter

Location: Devonport Dockyard

Pay rate: UMB £21.50 DOE

6 month contract


Would like to see candidates with HP air and Diesel experience, where possible

General Description of Job:


Here at Devonport Royal Dockyard we're looking for Mechanical Fitters to join the team that is at the forefront of supporting the Royal Navy fleet. You'll play an integral role in ensuring the serviceability of warships and systems through detailed maintenance and refit periods by working within multi-trade teams.


Using your mechanical experience, you'll remove, overhaul and install a variety of mechanical equipment which could include hydraulics, weapons, water and fuel systems and LP/HP air, among other assets. Working to engineering drawings and technical specifications, you'll also install and align new equipment and carry out system and equipment functional tests and surveys.
If you can bring technical skills and a safe working attitude, then we can provide you with some of the most exciting engineering projects this country has to offer.

What do I need to do the role?


You'll have the ability to read engineering drawings to interpret work instructions and be competent in the use of general workshop machinery specific to mechanical fitting.
Ideally will have worked in the marine industry with experience of Royal Navy ships and submarines, Royal Fleet Auxiliary vessels or large commercial ships - although other relevant experience will be considered.


You'll need to hold qualifications in at least one of the following:


  • Indentured Apprenticeship
    * Level 3 Modern Apprenticeship in a mechanical discipline
    * Armed Forces PO/CPO/NCO with mechanical specialisation
    * Level 3 Mechanical Engineering qualification
