Linguistic Data Analyst - London - 6 months

The role location is London (remote working initially).

The role is working for a large multinational finance and insurance corporation.

Position Summary

This role sits within a team that develops AI-first products (apps and services that use machine learning to inform and assist their users) for both the insurance and investment arms of the client. This is mainly achieved through:

  • Incubation of disruptive innovation (through scientists, engineers and designers working together)
  • Machine learning R&D (and publication in top AI/ML conferences and journals)
  • Machine-learning advisory / consultancy to the client's global businesses

The resulting solutions and innovations aim to reinvent the client's internal processes, improve their offerings to its clients (in line with the company's mission to be its clients' most valued insurer), and ultimately disrupt the wider insurance industry.

As a critical role in Investments AI's success, we are looking to hire a Linguistic Data Analyst to join our team and contribute to the development of disruptive apps / products - part of a series of exciting new projects in the client's global Investments AI team, solving complex business problems.

This is an exciting opportunity for those who want to enjoy state-of-the-art R&D and be challenged and grow in the field of "AI-first" software and product development; along the way this role will contribute to game-changing products for the multi-trillion-dollar insurance industry and use the client's (the world's largest insurer by many metrics) global network to deliver impact and change.

We are looking for a linguistic data analyst who will help develop Natural Language Processing (NLP) technologies which support the client's investment professionals in demanding, high-precision use cases. In this position, you will play a key role in ensuring the quality and reliability of mission-critical linguistic resources.

An ideal candidate will have a demonstrated background in linguistics, linguistic data and resource management, and experience with annotation crowdsourcing to support machine learning teams. The candidate should also possess strong time management skills and should be able to work independently. Knowledge of finance is desirable but not a strict requirement for this role.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop high-quality linguistic data resources which can be deployed to full live production by supporting core NLP model development, creating and refining annotation guidelines, annotating content, and monitoring and maintaining data quality.
  • Collaborate with product specialists, NLP scientists, engineers, and investment professionals in order to ensure that the product team's annotation efforts are aligned with demanding user needs and product goals.
  • Interface with, manage, and monitor external vendors in order to ensure a consistent supply of high-quality, high-volume annotations.

Essential Qualifications

  • 2+ years of work experience, with significant exposure to projects involving large text data sets and text analytics.
  • Experience with linguistic annotation, data crowdsourcing, and analytical data quality metrics and quality assurance.
  • A fluent English speaker and writer, with an excellent grasp of English linguistics and communication.
  • Is extremely organized and detail-oriented.

Desirable Skills and Prior Experience

  • A genuine interest or a formal background in linguistics.
  • Prior exposure to data mining and corpus analysis.
  • Prior work experience at a crowdsourcing service provider.
  • Knowledge of financial concepts, topics, and terminologies, and interest in financial markets and instruments.
  • Experience with basic Python data manipulation and data science tools (such as Pandas, JSON, and CSV) or shell scripting.
  • Experience with SQL and database management.
  • Experience with advanced Excel data manipulation and reporting.
  • Prior exposure to Amazon Web Services (S3), git, and RESTful APIs.
