The Customs Declaration Service is the core platform replacement for the UK customs handling systems which process the declarations for goods entering and leaving the UK/EU through ports and airports, support the calculation and payment of the correct duty and taxes and the completion of customs information electronically. The current systems handle approx 50-60M declarations per year but the potential exists for these volumes to increase by 7-8x in a post-Brexit landscape; it therefore forms a critical part of the government Brexit capability. The programme is operating as a Complex SI delivery built around an SOA architecture integrating a combination of new bespoke systems and COTS
