About the Role
We are seeking an experienced DV Cleared Linux Systems Administrator to join our secure operations team. Working within a high‑security environment, you will be responsible for maintaining, supporting, and optimising Linux‑based systems that underpin mission‑critical services for government and defence-sector customers.
This position is ideal for a highly skilled engineer who thrives in a secure, fast‑paced environment and takes pride in delivering reliable, stable, and secure infrastructure solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer, configure, and maintain Linux servers (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu, or similar) in a secure, multi‑system environment.
- Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement improvements to ensure maximum uptime and efficiency.
- Perform patching, updates, and security hardening in accordance with strict governance and compliance requirements.
- Support secure networks, storage solutions, and virtualised environments (VMware, KVM, or Hyper‑V).
- Manage user accounts, permissions, and access controls following least‑privilege principles.
- Produce and maintain system documentation, runbooks, and operational procedures.
- Work closely with security teams to ensure systems remain compliant with internal and external standards.
- Support incident response, root‑cause analysis, and service restoration activities.
- Participate in on‑call or out‑of-hours support as required within the secure environment.
Skills & Experience
- Active DV clearance (must be currently held and transferable).
- Strong hands‑on experience with Linux administration across production or secure environments.
- Knowledge of shell scripting (Bash, Python, or similar).
- Experience with secure configuration, system hardening, and compliance frameworks.
- Familiarity with configuration management or automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet).
- Good understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, firewalls).
- Experience with monitoring tools (Nagios, Zabbix, Prometheus, or equivalent).
- Strong problem‑solving skills with the ability to work independently in a restricted environment.
- Excellent documentation and communication skills.
Desirable (Not Essential)
- Exposure to defence, government, or high‑security environments.
- Experience with DevOps tooling (Git, CI/CD, containers, Docker/Kubernetes).
- Knowledge of storage technologies (SAN/NAS).
- Certifications such as RHCSA/RHCE, Linux+, or security-related qualifications.
