Job Description


The Traded Risk function seeks a senior software engineer to join the team to help in the on boarding and roll out of a new, critical ETL application. Developer will be working on an Apache Spark based platform primarily responsible for learning and supporting the various shared components which comprise the application. In addition, will be responsible for daily batch and streaming data transformations. Candidate may additionally work on other projects critical to the Risk function.

Typical activities for this role includes:

  • Building, Testing, and Supporting micro-services that manage business processes centering around a Spark data transformation platform
  • Building data pipelines in Spark
  • Developing and supporting interfaces to other systems, both inside and outside the firm
  • Interpretation of business requirements from a technical perspective
  • Performing peer code reviews
  • Training new team members
  • Active participation in planning and rollout of large scale releases
  • Creation and maintenance of technical documentation e.g. system overviews, architectural docs, user manuals and support firefighting guides
  • Setup and maintain interfaces with application performance metrics (APM) tooling
  • Push for, and respond to the availability of new infrastructure types within the Bank
  • Organized - must write performant, well documented, easily supportable code


General Skills & Requirements

  • 7-10+ years' experience in IT development
  • Fluent in Java and related software engineering tools, and willing to quickly learn professional-grade Python, Scala
  • Experience with SQL, JSON processing libs and REST APIs very helpful; XML libs also very helpful
  • Very comfortable with Unix in general; Familiar with Unix performance measurement
  • Familiarity with HBASE, Parquet and Arrow a plus
  • Experience with products Oracle, Postgres, and MongoDB a plus
  • Interest in technical problems stemming in business requirements
  • Good to have Data Analytics skills (as will be dealing with processing of large data sets)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, experience presenting technical choices
  • Excellent interpersonal skills - self-motivated and pro-active worker


Nice to Have

  • Background in computer science / engineering
  • Experience with Jupyter notebooks
  • Experience with a variety of API's and Messaging Types - REST, SOAP, JMS/Solace, XML, JSON
