Experis are currently recruiting for a Data Architect to join a large higher education client based in the Midland. The organisation looking to implement a new data platform with new data architecture, consolidating existing data warehousing and data systems. The contract must have extensive experience development of systems architectures within the Microsoft tech stack.

Responsibilities

  • Uses appropriate tools, including logical models of components and interfaces, to contribute to development and documentation of systems architectures. Within a business change programme, assists in the preparation of technical plans and co-operates with business assurance and project staff to ensure that appropriate technical resources are allocated.
  • Produces detailed component specifications from systems architectures, taking a holistic view of the intended uses of the architectures.
  • Develops product short-lists and evaluation criteria then uses them in product selection. Translates component specifications into detailed designs for implementation using selected products.
  • Provides advice on technical aspects of system development and integration, including the operational and maintenance aspects of systems under development, and proposed system recovery procedures. Ensures that relevant technical strategies, policies, standards and practices are applied correctly.
  • Leads architecture developments for small systems.
  • Contributes to formal reviews and evaluations when projects and programmes end.
  • Assesses the potential benefit to the organisation of specific technologies, products, methods and techniques. Investigates these in detail, recognises further avenues of research and identifies early users, if any.
  • Contributes to the development of the organisation's strategic plans, including the creative use of information and communications technology.

Person Specification

  • Educated to bachelor degree level or holds a relevant professional qualification
  • Hold Chartered IT Professional Status
  • Proven knowledge of the IT infrastructure (hardware, databases, operating systems, local area networks etc) and the IT applications and service processes used within the University.
  • Demonstrable experience of methods and techniques used for structured reviews, including reviews of technical diagrams, test plans, business cases and any other key deliverables.
  • Experience of undertaking analytical comparisons of IT products against specified criteria to determine the best solution to the business need.
  • Proven experience of performing a proof of concept or prototyping exercise to demonstrate or evaluate the feasibility and potential benefits of applying a particular technology, product or toolset to meet a business need.
  • Proven experience of utilising techniques for streamlining business processes, which have been modelled and understood.
  • Demonstrable experience in the selection and application of information gathering methods, tools and techniques which are appropriate to the information required and the sources available.
  • Proven expertise in techniques used for the systematic design, running, analysis and reporting of results of experiments to discover a new understanding of some aspect of IT.
  • Proven knowledge of techniques and tools required for searching and obtaining relevant knowledge from published literature.
