Job Title: Wintel Engineer
Location: Corsham
Duration: Until end of March 2025
Rate: Up to £650-£750 per day based on relevant experience and via an approved umbrella company
Overview
The WINTEL Engineering Service will support the technical team installing, configuring and updating Windows servers and software components of the NSoIT(D) solution and development environment. The target environments are heavily virtualised. This work will also entail working with other teams to troubleshoot and diagnose technical issues. The detailed responsibilities of the team include:
- Installation, configuration, maintenance, administration, and support of Windows servers and related infrastructure, including in a virtualised environment.
- Installation and configuration of Microsoft enterprise products including but not limited to, Active Directory, Group Policy, SQL, Exchange, Skype, WSUS, PKI and MS Office elements.
- Production and review of all levels of design artefacts.
- Supporting wider NSoIT(D) system testing activities.
- Working with Service Management to resolve issues.
Essential skills, qualifications, and experience
In order to deliver this service, it is essential that individuals have:
- Significant experience in the installation, configuration, maintenance, administration, and support of Windows server operating systems, especially Windows Server 2019, including in a virtualised environment.
- Experience of GPUs in a server environment
- Experience of deploying servers and additional storage devices in a data centre environment
- Severalyears' experience in the design, configuration, and administration of following in a secure environment.
- Active Directory
- DNS
- DHCP
- PKI
- WSUS
- MECM
- Solarwinds
- Trend (or similar AV products)
- Veeam
- Proxy services
- Several years' experience in the deployment and management of COTS applications on Windows Server infrastructure.
- Experienced of GIS solutions would be useful
- Experience in:
- Administering and monitoring a virtual server infrastructure.
- Configuring and administering backup and restore of Windows systems.
- Patching Windows systems.
- Configuring peripheral devices, including storage
- MS Windows client configuration and support including Windows 7 and Windows 10.
- Writing and analysing technical requirements.
- Creating, adapting and using PowerShell scripts.
- Microsoft MCSE/NCSA Qualification or similar in Server 2012R2/16/19/22
- Exceptional communication skills with diverse and adverse audiences.
- Strong critical thinking and analytical skills to solve problems and propose new ideas.
- Hold a valid Security Clearance (SC)
- The ability to respond to changing project time scales and priories work accordingly.
- Competency in MS Office Suite.
Desirable skills, qualifications, and experience
In order to deliver this service, it is desirable that individuals have:
- Experience of:
- Working within the public sector, preferably Defence, and ideally with Defence Digital (formerly ISS).
- Delivering accredited secure solutions within the UK Public Sector.
- Delivering in Agile (SAFE4) and waterfall projects,
- VMWare troubleshooting experience.
- Microsoft server management tools including SCOM/MECM administration
- Configuration of networks with knowledge of Cisco routers and switches
- Knowledge of the Atlassian toolset (JIRA and Confluence) to record and document work.
- Cisco Network Administration experience or certification (CCNA or CCNP)
- A firm grasp of service management tolling and ITIL knowledge/certification
- Experience in implementing secure architecture within a multi-tenanted environment.
- Public Key Infrastructure
- A Computer Science university-based education at Bachelors or Masters level or equivalent experience.

- Server and storage hardware installation in a data centre environment
- Windows Server build and configuration, including GPU support.
- Support for application installation and configuration team
- Infrastructure configuration (Active Directory, firewall, proxies etc) to support application.
- Thick client deployment and support
- Creation and management of MECM packages
- Support for testing and integration
