Senior Technical Systems Administrator (SC Cleared)
Duration: 6-month initial contract
Location: 2 days per week on site in Somerset
Rate: £550 - £600, Inside IR35

Experis are delighted to be working with a highly technical public sector body who are looking for hands on technical Senior Technical Systems Administrator. You will be responsible for providing management, expert-level technical advice and third-line support. This will ensure the reliability and efficiency of the organisation's critical infrastructure, including servers, systems, communications, and services. In addition to your technical expertise, you will also manage and coordinate the activities of the team, fostering best practices and ensuring that service targets are consistently achieved.
Overview of responsibilities:
Work Management:
- Managing the day-to-day work of the Team.
- Ensuring incidents are resolved within SLA targets.
- Serving as a point of reference for queries related to the incident/change management process.
- Taking on the Change Ownership role, monitoring the progress of Change Requests from the logging stage to completion and taking appropriate action to ensure requests are delivered on time and to the customer's satisfaction.
Technical Delivery:
- Utilising tools to investigate, diagnose, and resolve complex and/or high-risk problems to maintain service level agreements, consulting with users, other staff, the Service Desk, and suppliers as necessary.
- Providing 3rd Line technical expertise and support to other technical Operational teams and Project Teams as required.
- Conducting complex configuration/installation and reconfiguration of server, storage, and communications platforms for business-as-usual changes or projects as required.
- Recommending and implementing standards for configurations, tools, and products.
Support Policies, Standards, and Working Practices:
- Ensuring governance is adhered to-e.g. requirements are signed off, changes are tested and signed off, CAB documents are comprehensive, production changes are approved, and cutover plans are managed.
- Ensuring all required activities are carried out, auditable, and documented in accordance with required standards, methods, and procedures, and that applicable configuration management procedures are adhered to and maintained.
- Facilitating ongoing knowledge sharing and the transfer of knowledge to the business and other technical staff.
- Developing appropriate procedures and processes to support the activities of the technical teams and to ensure effective management of all system changes.
Key Skills/Experience Essential:
- Experience in leadership and staff development within a technical/support team environment. Experience in directing others to undertake tasks.
- Expert technical experience in a wide variety of Server, Storage, and Networking technologies at a 3rd Line Support level.
- Knowledge of IT security best practices, with particular emphasis on GOV standards and the accreditation process.
- Extensive experience with Windows Servers, Virtualisation technologies, enterprise storage technologies, and other Server and infrastructure technologies in a large enterprise environment.
