Role Title: Linux Technical Specialist
Duration: contract to run until 31/12/2026
Location: Fleet, Hybrid 2/3 days onsite
Rate: up to £460 p/d Umbrella inside IR35
Role purpose / summary
We are seeking a skilled Linux Technical Specialist to manage and maintain our Linux-based infrastructure. This role is critical to ensuring the stability, security, and performance of our systems. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to support applications and services running on Linux platforms, while driving automation and continuous improvement.
Key Skills/ requirements
System Administration
- Install, configure, and maintain Linux servers (Red Hat, CentOS, Ubuntu).
- Perform system updates, patching, and performance tuning.
- Monitor system health and resolve technical issues proactively.
Security Management
- Implement and maintain security controls to protect system integrity.
- Conduct vulnerability assessments and security audits.
- Manage firewalls, IDS/IPS, and other security tools.
Network Management
- Configure and troubleshoot network settings on Linux systems.
- Ensure seamless connectivity and integration across platforms.
- Support DNS, DHCP, and TCP/IP configurations.
Backup & Recovery
- Design and implement backup strategies for critical systems.
- Perform regular backups and validate recovery procedures.
Automation & Scripting
- Develop scripts to automate routine tasks using Bash, Python, or Perl.
- Support configuration management using tools like Ansible, Puppet, or Chef.
Support & Collaboration
- Provide technical support to internal teams and resolve Linux-related issues.
- Work closely with developers to optimize application performance.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of system configurations and procedures.
- Generate reports on system performance, incidents, and compliance.
Required Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Linux System Administrator or Technical Specialist.
- Strong knowledge of Unix/Linux operating systems.
- Experience with virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware, KVM).
- Familiarity with configuration management tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef).
- Solid understanding of networking protocols and services.
- Proficiency in scripting languages (Bash, Python, Perl).
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certifications such as RHCE, RHCSA, or LPI.
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Knowledge of containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
