Global Legal Risk and Compliance Manager

Location: Birmingham (Hybrid)
Package: Upto £100,000 + Car allowance and generous Pension (Dependant upon experience)

The Global Risk and Compliance Manager role is designed to introduce innovative approaches to embed robust risk management and compliance processes within the organisation. This presents an exceptional opportunity for a seasoned lawyer with over 10 years of PQE, currently engaged in an in-house capacity, and possessing experience in a dynamic global multi-jurisdictional organisation, especially within a fast-paced commercial team.

As a key player, you will directly report to the Group General Counsel, steering the evolution and implementation of global risk management programs. Your focus will be on supporting the Code of Ethics, emphasising areas such as ABC, AML, Sanctions, Workplace ethics, modern slavery, and supply chain risk, along with privacy considerations.

Our organisations, a prominent figure in Testing, Inspection, and Certification, also offers specialised ESG Advisory Services. We encourage candidates from diverse backgrounds to apply, and while experience within the TIC sector or genuine familiarity with ESG Services is advantageous, it's not mandatory.

This role calls for not just managerial and leadership capabilities but a hands-on approach. We seek a highly motivated individual with a proactive "can-do" attitude, ready to directly engage in projects and adept at influencing stakeholders across the organisation to drive initiatives forward.

More about the Role:

  • Ensuring group policies and procedures are aligned with current law and regulation both in the UK and in the other countries where we have a presence, collaborating with overseas in house and external legal counsel, other functional and operational colleagues and risk managers
  • Delivery of training to all levels of the organisation and creation of delivery models appropriate for a diverse and hybrid workforce. Enabling local legal counsel to facilitate the roll out of initiatives
  • Leading internal compliance investigations and ensuring recommendations for improvement are properly documented and followed up
  • Participating in internal audits of governance and compliance related matters supporting our operational and management colleagues to maintain "best in class" compliance and governance across the business
  • Project Managing the risk and compliance consolidation/uplift programmes that are implemented as a result of mergers and acquisitions and ensuring a consistent and consolidated risk management approach is adopted across the whole of the organisation
  • Leading compliance investigations and management of our Speak-Up hotline. Responsible for the sourcing and supplier management of the external hotline providers
  • Inputting into programmes owned by other functions- Information Security, Data Protection, HR Core team and Business Partners and Statutory and Compliance Control leads to ensure we have an end- to- end approach to ethics and compliance and project and programme managing certain key deliverables
  • Chairing the Group Ethics and Compliance Committee and designing KPI's and reporting metrics on ethics and compliance matters to guide the Group.

If you have the following experience, then we think you should apply:

  • Enrolled Solicitor or degree qualified risk manager with a minimum of 10 years post qualification experience ideally with a mix of in house and private practice
  • Demonstrable knowledge of anti-corruption, bribery, privacy, modern slavery act and application in a global business setting
  • Strong presentation skills, use of powerpoint, power bi would be an advantage
  • Experience of project and programme management would be an advantage as would knowledge and experience working with SME's and Corporates on a local and/or global scale
  • Fluent spoken and written English. Excellent written and verbal presentation skills. Another language would be an advantage but not a pre-requisite
  • Strong business acumen with impeccable ethics record
  • The passion and ability to render the complex straightforward; what many will view as dull interesting and relevant and to really engage our people to ensure our ethics and values remain at the core of everything we do
  • Working as part of a team the successful candidate will have the interpersonal skills that will enable them to work effectively within different cultures and sectors:- from cyber security to business assurance, inspection and testing and certification; at different stages of their evolution, different cultures and approaches.
