JOB ROLE:

· Working in our Data, Research and Insight Hub you will provide high quality, timely and accurate data and analysis to inform policy, process and operational improvements both within the company and for a cariety of key stakeholders and organisation across the UK.
· You will work closely with our experienced team of data analysts, statistical experts, researchers, policy experts and report writers to ensure the data and information we produce and publish is relevant, robust, accurate.
· The work you produce will help inform UK workforce plans and make an impact on the performance of the company, the quality of medical education in the UK, the safe and correct registration of doctors, and the quality of our fitness to practise process.

Main responsibilities:

· To interrogate quantitative and qualitative information to identify risk, issues and new insights about the medical workforce to inform strategic decisions and action.
· To work with colleagues to plan and deliver well-documented projects, whose objectives may include collection of new data sets, new analysis or interrogation of data, a new way of presenting data, or a combination of these.
· Work with external customers or internal system users to identify their information requirements and develop the appropriate reporting solutions and provide accurate, timely, insightful and informed reports.
· To produce high-quality professional reports, visualisations and dashboards, taking account of the customer's needs and the user experience. This includes a range of products from basic data tables in Excel and PDF to sophisticated data visualisations using software such as Tableau.
· To build strong, effective relationships both with internal colleagues in your immediate team and across the company; and with external organisations, who are suppliers of information to us and customers of our information products.
· Produce ad hoc statistical reports and data for internal stakeholders, including Council, Reference Groups, Change Management, senior management and for external stakeholders.
· To receive, clean and report on data we collect.
· Carry out rigorous peer review of reports produced by team members.
· To maintain and improve data quality, processes for data storage and retrieval and adhere at all times to information governance and data protection policies.
· Any other reasonable duties as may be assigned from time to time.

TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Educated to degree level in a numerate or research based subject (or equivalent experience), and a good understanding of the application of statistical concepts.
Experience of analytical software, such as R, VBA, SQL or SPSS and data visualisation software such as Tableau are desirable. Fluency in MS packages including advanced Excel functions.
Able to assimilate complex information held across multiple data sources and present the results in a format which enables non-technical colleagues to make decisions and take action.
The ability to design and deliver briefings, literature summaries, presentations and reports that meet and exceed the expectations of their audiences.
An understanding of the risks patients and health professionals face and the ability to appraise the suitability of new datasets for their use in researching such problems.
Ability to judge the quality and importance of different classes of intelligence and data, with sound knowledge around data quality - able to analyse quantitative evidence (the ability to select and apply the right statistical tests is not required, but an understanding of the principles of statistical testing is a distinct advantage)
Experience of working with data or of producing reports that have to comply with Data Protection and Freedom of Information rules and guidelines.
Solid understanding of the role and interests of the company as medical regulator, and of the wider healthcare system and the data it generates across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Good working knowledge of NHS organisations and NHS datasets would be helpful, as would knowledge of research bodies and insight groups, such as think tanks.
Communications skills
The ability to articulate complex information concisely and accurately.
Able to write engaging reports about complex data for non-technical audiences
Strong oral communication skills and the confidence to present information in one-to-one and group situations, adapting style and level of detail as appropriate to the audience.
The ability to critique the work of colleagues and provide constructive feedback.
Interpersonal skills
The ability to quickly establish credibility and interact effectively with internal colleagues and those external to the company at all levels to develop constructive and collaborative relationships.
The proven ability to respond creatively and quickly to new or changing requirements.
Able to work in a manner that fosters new ideas and encourages colleagues to think innovatively for themselves about how data can be used in their contexts.
