Bid Manager - Lead

Job Purpose


The Bid Management Lead will work as part of the Land Future Business Team, supporting the Head of Business Winning in the quality application of the end-to-end Business Winning Methodology throughout the Sector. The role will focus on day-to-day resource planning and management for the bid management function, supporting the development of the bid management function and bid managers to enable skills development and progression through functional career paths. The Bid Management Lead will also undertake the role of business winning manager and bid manager on opportunities as required.

Main Tasks:


* Lead, develop, and resource co-ordinate all bid managers and bid co-ordinators within the Future Business team to a consistent high standard
* Assist the Head of Business Winning in the coaching and development of bid management personnel
* Support and guide bid managers in the effective day-to-day management of opportunities and undertaking of business winning activities, managing local bid issues to mitigate points of functional escalation
* Support the development, roll-out, and coaching of continuous improvement in bid management, including the development of standardised ways of working and tools
* Assist in the development of best practice approaches around areas such as bid programme development and controls, budget management, bid kick-offs, and communications
* Ensure effective information management and security as a function
* Support the Head of Business Winning in managing and facilitating the lessons learned process for bids
* Undertake the role of business winning functional lead and/or bid manager on opportunities as required
* Own the application of the Business Winning Methodology for specific bids and/or portfolios, working closely with other functional leads to integrate the inputs/outputs of a range of different professional skills and competencies required from across the business to develop quality business winning outputs.
* Support bid teams as required to ensure quality submissions are prepared and issued as requested by our customers
* Undertake the development of business winning functional outputs as required
* Drive objective analysis and decision making throughout all bid activity to provide the best chance of meeting the customer's needs and winning.
* Manage and facilitate the effective undertaking of business winning reviews and incorporation of independent challenge, including competitive assessment reviews (Black Team) and strategy reviews (Blue Team).
* Monitor and report on the progress of opportunities
* Ensure effective and objective opportunity qualification and application of the bid governance process.
* Line management and personal development of bid management team
* Work closely with the Proposal Management Lead to continuously improve efficiencies, integrated working, and skills sharing/development across workstreams

Person Specification


* Experience of managing a department/team of bid personnel
* Experience of developing bid professionals
* Business winning professional with experience in leading the application of recognised business winning methodologies
* Strong project management experience
* Ability to motivate and lead teams
* Educated to degree level
* APMP qualification
