Job Title: Assistant IT Security Officer
Location: Plymouth
Length: 12 months initially - strong potentail for extention
Rate: £35 to £40 per hour via an umbrella company

My client, a complex engineering services which support national defence, are working to create a safe and secure world, together, and if you join us, you can play your part as an Assistant IT Security Officer (ITSO) at our Plymouth site.

The role
As an Assistant IT Security Officer, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. You'll enable the onsite team to deliver an improved Information Security function and provide the resource to deliver timely support to projects and contractual requirements.

Essential experience of the Assistant ITSO:

  • Have a good understanding of Information and Communication Technologies, Cyber Threat Intelligence, Information Security and Accreditation.
  • Good communication skills with the ability to communicate complex, technical subjects to non-technical audiences.
  • Good interpersonal skills for managing relationships with stakeholders and customers - keen to help.
  • Capable of a high standard of written communication including experience of writing complex reports.
  • Able to 'stand and deliver' presentations in a classroom setting and through multi-media


Job Description/Spec Template - Assistant ITSO

The successful candidate will act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) and be able to articulate, advise and influence DRDL and its projects on the relevant IT security standards, policies and requirements.

You will also be required to:

  • Investigate IT security events and incidents, and manage these and other requests.
  • Assist in the development and review of User Standard Operating Instructions (USOI) and Security Operating Procedures (SyOPs).
  • Carry out IT based risk assessments and raise Risk Balance Cases.
  • Participate in Security Working Groups when requested.

Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Competences

  • To be suitable for SC clearance and a number of security programmes.
  • Have a good understanding of Information and Communication Technologies, Cyber Threat Intelligence, Information Security and Accreditation.
  • Good communication skills with the ability to communicate complex, technical subjects to non-technical audiences.
  • Good interpersonal skills for managing relationships with stakeholders and customers - keen to help.
  • Capable of a high standard of written communication including experience of writing complex reports.
  • Able to 'stand and deliver' presentations in a classroom setting and through multi-media.
  • Knowledge of Service Level Agreements and Key Performance Indicators.
  • Comfortable with blended agile working conditions of work palace and home working, to an agreed pattern.
