Job Title: Scientific Writer

Location: London (Hybrid)

Contract: Three Month

The client has undergone a monumental transformation in the tobacco industry. Moving away from cigarettes, our primary focus is on smoke-free products that do not involve the burning of tobacco, which is the primary source of the harms of smoking cigarettes.

As a scientific writer, you will be creating content across pmiscience.com, which is the public repository for our scientific publications and useful information about our research on our smoke-free products.

The scientific writer will be able to take worldclass research and turn it into inspiring and engaging articles and other informational content that help the wider scientific community, regulators, journalists, and science communicators understand our latest research.

You will work with your scientific editor to generate content that provides a brilliant understanding of scientific research, clarifies how that research is carried out, and contains all the proof points needed to support the scientific narratives. You'll tell our science stories with passion, but without over-claiming or exaggerating results.

This is a complex role that requires faithful attention to detail and accuracy, identification of the story underlying the science, and an ability to translate that science to plain English for our varied audiences. Not just balancing but excelling at all three of these aspects in a polished writing style is key to success in this role.

Key activities:

  • Writing new and editing existing article and other web content for website
  • Writing new and editing existing information in assets and infographics for website and other owned outlets.
  • Editing and revising your content according to the feedback from the Scientific Communications team, and colleagues from legal.
  • Explaining detailed research to the wider content creation team.
  • Accuracy checking for the wider content creation team.

Desired profile:

  • An inquisitive and scientific mind.
  • At least 3 years' experience developing a portfolio of articles and other content explaining science for a non-expert audience on a wide range of scientific topics.
  • Experience reading and disseminating summaries of detailed research papers for a non-expert audience.
  • Experience working within a scientific organization or science journal is a plus.
  • Journalistic training or similar is a plus.
  • Experience working in an international environment and in cross-functional teams.
  • Scientific qualifications to degree level or equivalent is a plus.
