I am recruiting an experienced highly experienced Welding Engineer to work for a FTSE 250 Engineering Support Services Organisation in Bristol. This role functions within their Marine and Technology Division which provides vital engineering services to key clients, such as the Royal Navy.

You will manage and oversee the Welding Engineers who provide timely technical input into marine defence contracts and manage the review of advanced welding processes.


  • Lead as small focused technical team in all matters of welding and NDT.
  • Lead as a subject matter expert on all aspects of welding.
  • Responsible for ensuring full technical compliance of welding and NDT activities.
  • Act as the business point of contact for NDT and work closely with contracted SME in all related activities.
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining appropriate management systems and procedures in support of obtaining ISO 3834 accreditation.
  • Provide awareness and knowledge sharing activities to manufacturing and design engineers to ensure understanding of requirements and activities.
  • Lead in the review, assessment and development of new welding processes and technologies and their introduction into manufacture.
  • Responsible for the delivery of welding development projects to budget and schedule.
  • Work closely with Welding Shop Manager on all aspects of weld quality.
  • Ensure timely creation and approval of all technical welding and NDT documentation in support of internal and external manufacturing activities.
  • Manage the coordination and delivery of welding engineering tasks and activities.
  • Responsible for the continued development of the welding engineering team capability and competencies.
  • Upholding the company's policies for Compliance (Quality, Health, Safety and the Environment).

Required Skills and Experience / Qualifications:

  • Formally educated to a minimum of degree/MSc level.
  • Hold IWE/EWE status or able to demonstrate working within governance in a similar role.
  • Practical knowledge of MIG/FCAW/SAW and TIG welding processes.
  • Good knowledge and understanding of the weldability of C-Mn, Q&T, stainless steels and Ni based alloys.
  • Good awareness and knowledge of NDT processes and applications e.g. Visual, Dye Penetrant.
  • Magnetic Particle, Radiography and Ultrasonics.
  • Previous experience in leading and developing technical teams.
  • Working within a high integrity product environment.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Computing skills (Microsoft Office).
  • Able to manage budget and schedule activities.
