I am recruiting an experienced Welding Engineer to work for a FTSE 250 Engineering Support Services Organisation in Bristol. This role functions within their Marine and Technology Division which provides vital engineering services to key clients, such as the Royal Navy.

The Welding Engineering Department requires an additional resource to maintain the current level of support and provide timely technical input into marine defence contracts. In addition, the role will also support the review of advanced welding processes.


  • Subject matter technical expert on all welding process and activities.
  • Interpret contracted codes, standards and specifications and develop, qualify and approve compliant processes and procedures.
  • Responsible for actively engaging in Contract Review and Production planning processes in relation to welding, and for creating and maintaining Welding procedures, Inspection criteria, Welding Work Instructions etc.
  • Responsible for actively engaging in the daily operating processes of the organisation to ensure that welding standards are maintained to best in class performance.
  • Carrying out reviews and approvals of suppliers welding documentation.
  • Provide practical knowledge and technical support to design for manufacture activities.
  • Play an integral role in the development and education of new welding technologies and their introduction in to a new production environment.
  • Resolving welding related production queries and issues.
  • Provide assistance to the estimation and planning of new contracts.
  • Upholding the company's policies for Compliance (Quality, Health, Safety and the Environment).

Required Skills and Experience / Qualifications:

  • Formally educated to a minimum of HND in Welding and Fabrication
  • Capable of developing their technical competency to MSc level
  • Ideally hold IWE/EWE status
  • Be able to demonstrate good practical knowledge of MIG/FCAW/SAW and TIG welding processes.
  • Good knowledge and understanding of the weldability of C-Mn, Q&T, stainless steels and Ni based alloys.
  • Able to compile and qualify WPQR's, WPS's and Welder Qualifications.
  • Capable of reading and understanding detailed technical drawings and written specifications.
  • Good general communication and computing skills (Microsoft Office).
  • Enthusiastic, hardworking with drive and ambition to succeed in this technical discipline.
