WebOps Engineer - Leeds - 12 Month Contract

My client is looking for a WebOps Engineer to join their team based in Leeds on a 12 month contract. The role will be full time on site and may require some out of hours working, and the client can offer a competitive daily rate.

The role is working in a global business and technology leader, innovating in research and development to shape the future of society at large Join their Tribe in Leeds and you'll work with the best digital minds. You'll create innovative products and applications. And you'll develop systems and software that can handle the biggest of challenges - like 11m financial transactions every Saturday afternoon.

Job Description:

  • Work as part of an agile, multi-disciplinary team to deliver and run highly available, high throughput web applications across the client product. Be the voice of operations for the squad to guarantee the "full stack" is considered to ensure the best customer experience.
  • Act as a multidisciplinary expert for all operational concerns, with a deep understanding in certain fields (e.g. network, security, database, performance, capacity), ensuring best practices are applied throughout the lifecycle of our products. Work with the architect, developers, testers and technical lead to encourage and challenge everyone to think about how reliable applications and services will be delivered and maintained.
  • Promote a DevOps culture throughout the squad and wider tribe.
  • Reporting to the Operations Manager you will also have strong relationships with the engineering manager and technical lead for the squad.

Required Experience:

The role is multi-disciplinary and benefits from having a varying understanding in the following areas:

  • They are a RHEL/CentOS house so a very good understanding of Linux is essential.
  • They have some typical LAMP stacks, though Mongo, Redis, Memcached and RabbitMQ also feature highly.
  • They have our own private cloud but also use AWS and Kubernetes for hosting.
  • They use React for UI.
  • They write our code in PHP and Javascript, making heavy use of Node.js. There's the usual mixture of bash, a little Python, and some Ruby.
  • Our source control is Git.
  • They make heavy use of Chef for our configuration management but experience of this or other CM tools is necessary.
  • They have heavy integration with Open Bet systems underpinning our sportsbook and gaming services.
  • They make use of Graphite, Grafana, New Relic, Splunk and Opsview for monitoring out services.
  • Their people ambition is to attract and develop diverse and talented people to meet the current and future growth needs of the business, whose aim is to create the best digital business to work at.
