Weapons Engineering Technician

A market leading FTSE 100 Defence organisation is currently recruiting for a Weapons Engineering Technician to take on a permanent position ASAP. Systems Engineering is an interdisciplinary approach and means to enable the realisation of successful systems. It focuses on defining customer needs and required functionality. Systems Engineering considers both the business and the technical needs of all customers with the goal of providing a quality product that meets the user needs.

The main responsibilities of the role are as follows:

  • Monitor the equipment in their charge, audit associated registers and logs, and carry out rounds of machinery and compartments in their Section as required.
  • To bring to the notice of the Head of Group all defects, and any undue circumstances discovered during maintenance or operation. To report frequently the progress with defect rectification and maintenance and immediately if notice for Sea, Operational availability or the Safety of Personnel is affected.
  • To enforce safety precautions as laid down in BRd 3000 Chapter 3 and BRd 167, paying particular attention to ensuring that systems under maintenance are 'Tagged Out' in accordance with the latest instructions.
  • To assist the Heads of Group by ensuring that planned maintenance and defect repair is carried out fully, efficiently and to a high standard to achieve the required standard of availability and performance.
  • To oversee any work carried out by contractors and arrange subsequent compartment inspections on completion of work.
  • To ensure that work carried out has been completed in accordance with the contract before signing for acceptance of the work.

The successful candidate will display the following skills, experience and qualifications:

  • Ability to operate and maintain Warship Equipment, undertake repairs and manage allocated sections within the engineering department.
  • Good knowledge of Royal Navy Operating procedures with particular skills in the Weapon Engineering disciplines.
  • Knowledge of Weapon Engineering System Management, Engineering Management, Health and Safety, UMMS
  • T23 Frigate experience with knowledge of Weapon Engineering systems (Desirable)
  • Experience of External Communications, Radar and Sonar systems (Desirable)
  • Qualified to HNC in an engineering / Technical subject or have relevant expertise, experience and specialist Naval support knowledge (Desirable)
