The Warehouse Technician is responsible for completing and monitoring all required tasks as directed by the Lead Warehouse Technician, working as part of team and ensuring both they and the team are following the appropriate procedures and processes in place. The Technician will assist in the day to day running of the process under the direction of the Lead Warehouse Technician or Ops Manager performing any reasonable task which is asked of them.

Essential Responsibilities:

Include the following but other duties may be assigned:-

  • Ensure company policies, procedures and operating instructions are followed
  • Comply with all safety instructions, promote individual and team safety
  • Promote and maintain Quality standards
  • Identify and report all Safety concerns, Quality issues and warehouse problems before progressing any work
  • Reporting directly to the Lead Warehouse Technician
  • Receive assignments, instructions and direction from the Lead Warehouse Technician
  • Receive, check in and issue consumables/materials in support of production, maintenance and other departmental activities and process for invoice payment
  • Preparation of shipments and dispatch
  • Daily communication with delivery drivers and personnel at all levels
  • Maintain and monitor accurate written and computerised records of all transactions
  • Maintain documented inventory and stock levels for all items held
  • Maintain all appropriate Stores equipment and perform housekeeping duties as required
  • Perform all duties while observing safety rules, Standard operating instructions and procedures including specific attention to manual handling techniques
  • Expected to cover holidays and sickness as part of a small dedicated team
  • Perform other duties as required by the Lead Stores Technician and/or Stores Supervisor

Principal Accountability

  • Maintain housekeeping standards and support EHS areas as required
  • Perform all duties while observing safety rules, standard operating instructions and procedures including specific attention to manual handling techniques
  • Participate in improving and updating Standard Operating Instructions and Risk Assessments
  • Expected to support department operations through overtime and provide cover for holidays and sickness

Qualifications

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals
  • Preferred previous working knowledge of Stores/Warehousing techniques
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing environment would be a distinct advantage
  • NVQ Level II in Stores/Warehousing/Distribution Operations or willing to study towards the qualification is desirable
  • Working knowledge of Windows software, including specific ability in the advanced use of Excel spreadsheets
  • Current Reach and Counterbalance Fork Lift Truck Licence

Desired Characteristics

  • A certificate from technical college; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Previous experience and willingness to work flexible shift patterns as required, covering holidays and sickness absence is essential
  • Must have good numeracy skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with situations where only limited procedures exist
  • Have ability to identify improvements within work area

Competency

  • Working knowledge of manufacturing process
  • Working knowledge of Windows software, including specific ability in the advanced use of Excel spread sheets
  • Working knowledge of the use of ERP systems for materials management

  • Constant handling of deliveries, heavier loads being moved using specialised lifting equipment
  • Constant standing and sitting movements from computer work to fork truck operation
  • Good vision required for safe fork lift truck operation, judging distances, height and depth perception
