Vehicle Mechanic - Lyneham

A market leading organisation is currently recruiting for a Vehicle Mechanic to take on a permanent position ASAP. The company is highly regarded for its employee recognition and vital position in today's market place. You will be a driven individual who is looking to work in a fast-paced environment with supportive team in a diverse and challenging environment.

The role will involve carrying out routine and bespoke servicing, maintenance, fault diagnosis mechanical/electrical repair and modification to a wide range of advanced military wheeled and tracked vehicles. Also diagnosis and repair of special to role training aids and equipment held at DCEME Lyneham. All repairs are completed to current MOD standards and compliant with VOSA/DofT inspection standards. All repair activities are to be carried out in accordance with current Health and Safety legislation, Army Equipment Support Publications (AESP's) and manufacturers handbooks.

The main responsibilities of the role are as follows -

  • Adept at in depth engineering work and diagnostics on large, and small vehicles including tracked vehicles.
  • Adept at adapting to a wide variety of unusual vehicle platforms using modern repair techniques and skills.
  • Adept at reading and utilising repair manuals, spares lists and modern diagnostic schematics through modern media assets as required.
  • Proficient at problem solving using technical knowledge and experience to obtain positive outcomes
  • Expected to work efficiently to achieve targets and specific deadlines set by Line Manager to achieve positive results
  • Must be able to operate as an individual and within a team to achieve positive results.
  • Resourceful and flexible able to adapt to changing priorities as necessary over entire range of supported equipment.
  • Competent level of IT skills enabling proficient use of computer based vehicle management, diagnostic and spares requisition systems.
  • Prepared for outdoor work and flexible working across all vehicle platforms to assist team ethos.
  • Positively embrace and support Line manager requests that utilise your skill set/capability to achieve results.
  • Any special role training required would be provided this may require study/revision and practical assessments that you will be expected to successfully complete and pass.
  • Enthusiastic, reliable and driven striving to deliver their best with the ability to support and encourage colleagues to achieve the same high standards.
  • Expected to engage and actively participate in the company Personal Development Report (PDR) and Mid Year Review (MYR) process.

The successful candidate will display the following skills and experience -

  • A recognised qualification in Automotive Engineering with a minimum C&G level 3 or BTEC/IMI/NVQ equivalent or has served in HM Armed Forces as a Vehicle Mechanic Class One (Essential)
  • Experienced IT skills competent at tilising laptops and diagnostic computers with a good understanding of MS Word and Excel (Essential)
  • Hold a current category 'C' or C+E license (Desirable)
  • Hold relevant MoD spec equipment training course qualifications (Desirable)
  • A good knowledge of/able to use JAMES (Desirable)
  • Hold a current category 'H' License (Desirable)
  • Valid FMT600 (Desirable)
