Business Analyst

Overview:

Working closely with the Product Owner to assist with the development of the business case and initial change requests.

Tasks:

  • Evaluation of existing business processes impacted by the technology changes to identify necessary change. Act as a communication bridge between IT Delivery team, Product Owner and other stakeholders.
  • Elaborating business requirements, completing necessary analysis and validation to create detailed functional specifications.
  • Delivering elements of systems design, including data and business rules, wireframes/UI or other detailed deliverables.
  • Investigating, evaluating, interpreting and classifying data, in order to define and clarify information structures which describe the relationships between real world entities. Functional modelling & eliciting requirements.
  • Facilitating the elicitation and understanding of requirements amongst multiple stakeholders. This includes stakeholders on both the IT and the business side of the organisation. Supporting the design or review of test cases, Manage formal changes in scope, acceptance, installation and deployment.
  • Creating data flow diagrams and models showing the movement of data across systems. Reporting and statistical analysis & Cost /benefit analysis.
  • Writing and refining user stories, including definition of Acceptance Criteria.
  • Requirements & Scope management and communication, Requirements analysis and validation.
  • A significant understanding of IT design and architecture; sufficient to collaborate with design and development roles and understand their requirements.
  • Facilitating design sessions with the development team to define the solution.
  • Database design and data transformation, Translating and simplifying requirements.
  • Planning and monitoring, Being the eyes and ears and acting as de-facto Product Owner, Requirements management including traceability.

Technologies:

  • Data wrangling, including understanding of SQL (estate currently includes use of Oracle, Ingres, MySQL) and Hadoop.
  • Strong technical skills; ability to work in a large, complex IT estate.
  • Production of data value maps (desirable).

Business Skills:

  • Strong written, verbal and visual communication skills, including technical writing ability (including User Stories, Process Flow, Entity Relationship Modelling, State Transition).
  • Ability to demonstrate flexibility, facilitation, diplomacy and prioritisation skills in a multi-stakeholder environment.
  • Problem-solving while working in a time-boxed delivery environment.
  • Leadership, team working and collaboration.
