UI Designers work with our agents and project delivery teams to create software that delivers a best in class experience and the best service to our customers. As a UI Designer you'll be creating an UI that inspire, engage and excite; you must be passionate about this.

Job Purpose/Key Responsibilities

This role of UI Designer is to work on behalf of the UXD Team to deliver its simple ambition. This role is fundamentally the creative execution of design work across multiple projects and focuses around three core areas:

Creative delivery

  • Support the UXD Team in shaping the day-to-day delivery and forward-looking UI direction for internal systems, ensuring it's in line with wider strategy
  • Lead by example by setting a benchmark for what good looks like through clarity and an innovative approach to your creative output
  • Establish and promote design guidelines, best practices and standards
  • Demonstrate a knowledge and desire to investigate, innovate and develop emerging design, UI and technology trends
  • Work with a team of UX designers to ensure any UI design changes help to compliment the overall user experience and journey

Team

  • Help drive our creative culture by being a highly visible advocate for all things design
  • Collaborate with design and development teams in order to create new experiences and evolve patterns
  • Work closely with the design team to ensure visibility and provide input into group design critiques

Relationship & Network building

  • Work with stakeholder groups both within and without the UXD Design team at product owner, and senior manager level
  • Advocate the value of UI design and User-centered Design practices with stakeholders across the business
  • Working with the team, stakeholders and colleagues to elevate our 'final product'

Required Skills

  • Experience with contemporary UCD methodologies
  • Solid understanding of visual and user-centered design, and how design can meet brand, business and strategic objectives
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in order to convey complex design concepts clearly to different delivery skill sets within the organisation
  • As obsessed with the finer detail as they are with the creative vision. Striving to deliver designs, that deliver
  • Ability to present your designs and sell your solutions to various stakeholders
  • Experience of working and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • A keen interest in current trends in design and communications and the ability to turn them in to cutting edge realities
  • Strong problem-solving skills and independent self-direction, coupled with previous experience working collaboratively with other UI Designers, UX Designers, Analysts, Solution Designers and Development teams
  • Proficient with the latest tools and applications such as Sketch, Figma, or Axure
  • Excellent visual design skills with understanding of user interaction
  • A strong design portfolio showing evidence of problem solving

Desirable Skills

  • An in-depth understanding of visual design principles and best practices
  • Capable of articulating concepts, rationale and ideas and a user-centric design process
  • A proactive, self-motivated individual who's able to prioritise a varied workload and has an equally strong team ethos
  • Good interpersonal skills and happy working in a team
  • Able to accept and enjoy challenge / feedback from peers
  • Preferably comes from creative/design background but with an understanding of web technologies
  • Desired but not essential experience working within a continuous agile software development environment, and in a highly collaborative manner with multiple delivery skill sets
  • Understanding of basic front-end languages: HTML5, CSS3 Javascript
