A new opportunity has arisen for a Navigation Simulator Controller working for a FTSE 100 Organisation based in Portsmouth.

Key responsibilities is to support the career training and assessment of Royal Naval Officers, RN Ships' Bridge Teams, Royal Naval Reserve, Royal Fleet Auxiliary personnel and Foreign and Commonwealth personnel by operating the CONSORT Bridge Simulator on behalf of the Royal Navy. This includes (in conjunction with and under the direction of the Royal naval staff) the design, development and implementation of scenarios and their supporting material; controlling and operating the Simulators and ensuring the principles of safe navigation are adhered to during training evolutions.

  • Control the bridge simulator on any course as required in the Navigation Training Unit and as detailed in the MWS Training Plan
  • Support the full range of training conducted within the bridge simulator both within the RN training plan and to support Babcock requirements
  • Prepare, review and update simulator training scenarios and supporting materials
  • Undertake such other tasks as may be allocated by the Bridge Simulator Manager
  • Responsible for the duty of care of trainees and other staff under their control during the execution of their primary purpose
  • Ensure Company health, safety and environmental procedures are implemented and complied with at all times.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Hold an RN or MCA (or equivalent authority) issued STCW II/1 watch keeping certificate
  • Two years watch keeping experience as an OOW at sea in a sea going vessel
  • Watchkeeping experience as an OOW in a warship or naval auxiliary - Desirable
  • Previous experience as a trainer or instructor, preferably within a military environment - Desirable

A watch routine, with a weekly alternation between day (0745-1600) and evening watches (1545-2300) is followed. Leave is normally to be taken during the RN leave period. Occasional weekend working may be required to a total of four weekends a year.
