A brand new and exciting opportunity has arisen for Technical Support Solutions Workshop Manager to join a FTSE 100 Organisation based in near Chippenham in Wiltshire at MOD Lyneham. This will be overall responsibility for managing the TSS Workshop, all aspects of Staff work, H&S, production, inspection, servicing and manufacture work, ensuring all such activities comply with relevant regulations, legislation and Babcock Policies in support of the Defence College Technical Training Electro Mechanical Training Contract (DCTT EMTC) delivery.

  • To have overall responsibility for all aspects of Workshop Operation and Production adhering to Statutory, Service legislation, MOD Policies
  • To have overall responsibility for planning & prioritising the equipment servicing, maintenance and inspection workload so as to minimise any disruption to training
  • To have overall responsibility for the completion and maintenance of workshop documentation and procedures in accordance with Statutory, Service Legislation and MOD policies.
  • To ensure the appropriate action and dissemination is taken for all incoming safety notices, publications and technical information that suitable registers are maintained and be proactive in the continuous updating of appropriate workshop technical documentation
  • To have overall responsibility for equipment management operation on DII and JAMES ensuring conformance with MOD policy and LEA requirements.
  • To have overall responsibility for the supervision/mentoring of apprentices and work experience placements.
  • To ensure all activities conducted by workshop staff and visitors are fully compliant with relevant Health & Safety Executive (H&SE), Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) legislation and Babcock policies
  • To ensure all workshop staff are competent and Suitably Qualified Experienced Persons (SQUEP) liaising with the ESM on shortfalls

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • NVQ/C&G L3 with significant experience within an engineering discipline
  • HND/HNC/ONC or equivalent in a Mechanical Engineering discipline
  • Significant line management training and experience
  • Experience of Quality Assurance and writing technical documentation
  • Safety Officer or civilian equivalent to minimum IOSH Managing Safely
  • Significant experience of assessing and generating Risk Assessments
  • Computer literate (Excel/Word/Access)
  • Quality Systems Practitioner/civilian equivalent to ISO/BSI standard trained - Desirable
  • Full Licence C&E (Unrestricted) and Cat H - Desirable
  • IOSH Managing Safely certificated - Desirable
  • Significant management experience within a REME Workshop/LAD or civilian equivalent
  • Management experience of engineering workshop systems
  • Significant management experience of workshop personnel and administration
  • Excellent communication abilities
  • Experience of BSS5750/ISO 9000 systems
  • Management of Health and Safety
  • Business management experience is not essential but experience in management of military style projects and contracts is preferred
  • Experience in provision of military training and support is preferred
  • Ability to lead and manage change
  • Ability to identify key challenges and implement timely action to achieve the desired output
  • Understands the customers key requirements
  • A financial awareness and the ability to maximise operational efficiency
  • Ability to facilitate, foster and maintain excellent customer relationships with all stakeholders
