Technical Support Analyst (Oracle) - Nottingham / West Midlands - Initial 3 months

Our client in the utilities industry requires a Technical Support Analyst (Oracle) with strong Oracle and UNIX Centric experience. This role is based in Nottingham or West Midlands with travel on an initial 3 month contract with the possibility to extend beyond this.


  • Providing 2nd and 3rd line support.
  • Delivering change of all sizes into Production environments that cross one or more functional and technical areas, ensuring ownership for release and post-implementation activity.
  • Carrying out estimates for change
  • Working with independence, but ensuring developed code is reviewed on a frequent basis to ensure quality and timeliness of deliverables
  • Updating documentation
  • Planning and undertaking unit testing to ensure that code is fit for purpose
  • Adhering to development standards, best practices and guidelines
  • Providing functional and technical expertise on one or more functional areas within the Application landscape
  • Challenging assumptions and ensuring value is added based on experience and knowledge
  • Resolving conflicting design/supportability/quality issues, influencing key decision makers in order to finalise architecture and usability issues against criticality of impact

Essential Skills:

Extensive experience of specialising in at least one of the following technology sets

  • Oracle (Must have)
  • UNIX Centric
  • Ruby, .NET, Java and Apex are a bonus.
  • Root cause analysis and bug fixing experience.

Experience Requirements

  • Meets all the requirements for Junior Technical Analyst role
  • Fully competent in large scale client/server system development, resulting in timely and effective code deployment for small and medium change, across a breadth of business and application functions

  • Strong analytical perspective, working with analysts and end users to design & develop effective solutions
  • Capable of acting autonomously, selecting from a range of analysis techniques to achieve the desired outcome, escalating implications
  • Expected to own and perform technical analysis and solution design for small and medium change after consultation with business analysts or direct with end users, with little or no supervision. Exposure to large change. Escalation channels understood and used effectively
  • Has broad business and systems understanding (across core "Big 10" systems), enabling solution delivery for a wide range of change. Has a detailed understanding of the IS applications landscape
  • End to end understanding of Support principles including but not limited to: issue prioritisation, incident management, and risk management.
  • Application of this understanding to the Project Lifecycle, particularly handover
  • Appreciation of business critical requirements and impacts, and ability to remain effective in pressurised environment
  • Has a good appreciation of system design techniques
  • Extensive exposure of performance tuning techniques, releasing solutions for and improving the performance of functional systems
  • Experience of adapting communication to a wide range of technical audiences, and ability to engage with non-technical audiences with little to no supervision
  • Experience of a wide range of testing options
