Technical Project Manager (Mechanical Engineering)


3/6 month initial contract

Technical Project Managers will manage a team of Mechanical Engineers and designers to deliver project(s) to requisite quality standards within time and budget. They will take full responsibility for the delivery of the technical scope of the project throughout the complete project lifecycle from initial concept design through to handover and completion. The focus would be to do lots of technical documentation and lead the mechanical design at first internally CAD designers and coordination with Conveyor suppliers. Then leading onto a more customer facing design coordination with stakeholders

Main day to day operational activities?

  • Leading design discussions with the client and stakeholders.
  • Delegating work to Mechanical designers
  • Checking ,peer review of documents produced by Mechanical engineers
  • Acting as the point of contact for the Client Project Manager on mechanical design issues
  • Coordinate the design with Electrical and controls functions (functional reviews)
  • Monitor progress and costs to budgets.

Experience Required:

  • Alternatives to baggage handling/industry
  • Similar conveyor related industries, automotive, bulk handling, parcel handling.
  • Needs to pick the design up quick as has to lead technical discussions with the client
  • Able to lead a team of skilled engineers and co-ordinate multidisciplinary interfaces
  • Relevant experience in the baggage handling sector
  • Able to plan and organise work in a challenging programme & budgeting environment
  • Experience in a 'client facing' environment with multiple stakeholders
  • Good confident communication skills and can interact with teams well
  • Have a thorough working knowledge of AutoCAD 2D
  • Have the ability to produce high quality accurate engineering drawings, including: System Layouts and Design Schemes.
  • Experience of conveyor systems in manufacturing, process or mechanical handling environments.
  • Have the ability to perform basic stress and drive power calculations.
