Support Engineer

Portsmouth

I am recruiting a Support Engineer on behalf of a FTSE 100 Engineering Organization and true market leader within engineering support for the maritime and defence industries.

The Support Engineer will be part of a team of support engineers at the Portsmouth waterfront and be responsible for providing Marine System technical assistance for the Queen Elizabeth and Type 45 Classes. This includes the provision of advice and recommendations as part of the MSSP Systems Technical Authority.

Principal Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Provide marine system technical assistance in support of reactive engineering demands (Operational Defects (OPDEFs), unintentional deviations from design intent (S2022s), maintenance concessions and technical queries).
  • Evaluate reactive engineering technical issues and, through the application of systems engineering principles, make technical recommendations.
  • Provide technical advice including developed action plans aligned to MSSP engineering governance and delegations.
  • Carry out technical investigations and analyses, including evaluation and selection of technical options, preparing reports with recommended courses of action.
  • Provide management information as required.
  • Identify opportunities for improvements to the MSSP service and improvements to the marine systems design baseline.
  • Comply with the Company safety rules and regulations or local procedures and any Company initiatives to improve safety.

Interfaces

  • The MSSP Systems Technical Authority (Chief Engineering Teams) in delivery of engineering outputs.
  • The MSSP Technical Service for line management and adherence to engineering processes
  • The Type 45 and QEC Class Warship Technical Authorities and Ships Staff as part of enterprise engineering processes.
  • Across the Team Assure organisation, OEMs and other stakeholders.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum of HNC in engineering discipline or professionally registered to EngTech or an equivalent experience demonstrating no less than 5 years in a maritime technical delivery role
  • (Desirable) Experience in Operating, Maintaining, Diagnosing and Repairing (ODMR) complex warships.
  • Proven ability to work in a collaborative manner across a multi-disciplinary team.
