Supplier Development Engineer

A market leading FTSE 100 Defence organisation is currently recruiting for a Supplier Development Engineer to take on permanent positions ASAP. The company is highly regarded for its employee recognition and vital position in today's market place. You will be welcomed in to a collaborative team environment contributing towards the development of a suite of best practice processes that you will deploy into the Supply Chain through building and developing meaningful client relationships.

As a Supplier Development Engineer you will be involved in formulating supplier improvement strategies, developing a suite of best practice processes and deploying the Supplier Improvement Vision with critical suppliers. You will also work closely with the Procurement team in identifying key suppliers for development and demonstrating supplier performance improvement through quality, efficiency and cost optimisation, whist demonstrating continued compliance with the necessary requirements and standards.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Competences

  • Experience of lean manufacturing methodologies and techniques
  • Experience of problem solving techniques
  • Knowledge of Purchasing, Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing
  • Knowledge of Quality and Business Management Systems
  • An understanding of Business Process Excellence
  • An understanding of Risk Management
  • An awareness of standards relating to Engineering, Manufacturing, Health & Safety and Quality requirements
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings
  • Ability to create and deliver presentations
  • Ability to present data effectively
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure optimal performance
  • Communicate efficiently at all levels throughout procurement and directly with suppliers management
  • Diplomatic approach to relationships
  • Suitable for SC Clearance


  • Be educated to degree level or equivalent with a relevant manufacturing/engineering discipline
  • Six Sigma qualification (greenbelt / blackbelt) (desirable)
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably Defence or Aerospace
  • Experience in a purchasing environment, preferably Defence or Aerospace
  • Experience of dealing with customers and suppliers
  • Own a full clean driving license
