Here at Babcock International we're looking for a Strategic Workforce Planning (SWP) Lead to join us at HMNB Devonport, one of the largest naval bases in Western Europe. We're a key strategic partner to our customers; the MOD and the Royal Navy. We ensure that the UK Royal Navy goes to sea safely by supporting them in Devonport and around the world, delivering complex ship and submarine sustainment programmes and applying our core strengths of technology and expertise to sustain critical and complex assets to help maintain national security.

You will lead on the pro-active SWP process by anticipating current and future hiring needs, developing sourcing strategies in a highly skilled and complex employment market to ensure the organisation have the resources to meet business goals.

The role is a full time permanent role with core flexible working hours. The role is based at Devonport with potential future opportunities for travel to Bristol, Rosyth and Faslane if desired.

What does the role involve?

You will become a driving force across the business in developing and monitoring resourcing strategies, responsible for;

  • Embedding a pro-active approach to SWP across Devonport Royal Dockyard Limited (DRDL)
  • Identifying sourcing strategies for the medium term (1-3 years), and long term (3 years plus) through a detailed understanding of our business plan and deliverables; that are realistic, sustainable and financially viable
  • Creating cost models appropriate for business budget planning purposes
  • Developing an SWP reporting process that enables clear communication of organisational employment dynamics
  • Identifying critical skills, business capability gaps and obsolete roles
  • Collaborating across key business areas, senior HR Business Partners and Centres of Excellence to ensure that plans are integrated and priorities maximised
  • Forecasting recruitment activity and skills development as the business strives to grow and upskill its workforce
  • Developing and implementing an SWP approach that is integrated with our business planning process

What do I need to do the role?

You'll need to be experienced in the use of modelling and analysis/reporting tools, preferably with a proven track record of delivering change initiatives;

  • Proven track record of delivering sourcing strategies in a relevant HR function
  • Data gathering, manipulation and analysis skills
  • Problem-solving of complex sourcing challenges
  • Ability to create forecasting and capacity models to plan for future demand, growth and channel shifts
  • Membership of CIPD with relevant qualifications would be desirable
  • Experience of managing and developing relationships with a broad range of stakeholders
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Highly collaborative and able to work successfully as part of a team
  • Strong attention to detail
