Stores Officer

Royal School of Military Engineering


Up to £30,380 P/A

We are looking to recruit a Stores Officer to work for a FTSE100 engineering support services organisation working on site at the Royal School of Military Engineering (RSME) in Chatham, Kent.

The organisation is the UKs leading provider of support services to the MoD and the Armed Forces and part of the work they do from the site in Chatham, (Brompton Barracks) is to provide support services to the Royal Engineer Soldiers that are training on the facility.

The role is to Support the (RSME) Stores Manager in the daily operations and administration of the Stores Department across the site, including administering all equipment, weapons and ammunition used in training activities by the soldiers.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist the Dept in ensuring that all Government Furnished Equipment (GFE) used at the RSME is accounted for in accordance with relevant authority publications and policies.
  • Provide logistical advice, guidance and mentoring to all Store Operators
  • Liaise with the Grounds Maintenance service provider and oversee the management of all sports grounds bookings whilst attending associated meetings
  • Deputise for the Stores Manager during periods of absence.
  • Carry out duties of the Management of the Joint Deployed Inventory (MJDI).
  • Ensure all Transferred Assets are managed and accounted for on IFS Inventory stores accounting system.
  • Monitor the department IFS queue and manage assets as required
  • Process and manage the entire Equipment loan process from initial requests through to return ensuring accountability and management of items at all times.
  • Carry out H & S audits across all sites as directed by the (RSME) SHEF Officer
  • Assist the Stores Manager in the planning of all pre authority inspections such as such as Logisitic Support Assurance Framweork (LSAF), Land Equipment Assurance Assessment (LEAA), Specialist Ammunition Inspection (SAI).
  • Act as Building Liaison Officer (BLO) ensuring Key control and access is managed accordingly.
  • Ensure Company Health, Safety and Environmental procedures are implemented and complied with at all times including the upkeep of the SHEF notice board.
  • Supervise the unit ammunition account by ensuring that all transactions adhere to DLF / JSP 886 and JSP 482 guidelines. Authorise unit ammunition demands using UAMS and CHURCHILL.
  • Act as Line Manager and conduct staff appraisals, investigations, disciplinary, grievance and absence management interviews where applicable.

Knowledge, Qualification and Experience

  • Experience of stores/warehouse management in a military environment.
  • Experience of managing a diverse workforce.
  • Experience of the military stores accounting system (MJDI)
  • Experience of managing Ammunition and accounting via CHURCHILL
  • Qualified in IOSH Managing Safely (desirable but not essential)
  • Hold a clean UK driving licence.
  • Proven track record of working with a busy customer focused organisation.
  • Attended and passed a military logistics course (RQMS/CQMS/Resources Specialist).
  • Computer literate in Microsoft Office packages.
