Main Responsibilities

  • Ongoing pro-active maintenance/monitoring of both database and server related infrastructure
  • Ensure all DB's are backed up to the required level and sufficient regularity
  • Design and Implementation of new Database infrastructure to support new business applications/growth
  • Support of all SSIS interfaces between Speedy internal systems and 3rd party vendors
  • To consult and advise on database problems, and provide suitable solutions
  • Provide 3rd Line support to the wider IT teams with any server or database related issues
  • Review system software and firmware updates for services within the database team remit and identify those that merit action, making recommendations for implementation.
  • Act as technical resource, in support of project installations which utilise a variety of technologies
  • Conducting additional ad hoc duties as may be required
  • Ensure all IT systems function within the parameters of the Service Level Agreements (SLA's)
  • Responsible for the performance, integrity and security of all databases
  • Provide performance and tuning of all SQL DB's, following best practice
  • Provision of OOH service to the business for Database related issues

The following is desirable but not essential

  • Experience of supporting Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012
  • Experience of supporting Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2016
  • Familiarity with data warehousing principles including cube design

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills and be able to develop strong relationships with the team and also IT stakeholders. Technical service delivery will be essential and experience in developing processes and procedures would be ideal as our commitment to continuous improvement is paramount.

  • experience supporting and maintaining MSSQL Server (covering SQL 2008 R2, 2012, 2016 and 2017)
  • Experience with backups, restores and recovery models with knowledge of High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options for MSSQL Server
  • Experience in implementing operational automation using scripts
  • Experience of indexes, index management, and statistics
  • Experience in Performance Tuning and Optimization (PTO), using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools
  • A good understanding SQL SSRS,SSAS 2012,2016 and 2017
  • A good understanding of Database storage technologies
  • A good understanding of Database security best practices
  • A good understanding of build and support of Microsoft Server technologies
  • Correctly assess impact and urgency of issues and prioritise accordingly
  • Ability to independently manage workloads and regularly report back on progress to management
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Excellent communicator both written and verbally
  • The ability to work well alone and under pressure
  • Knowledge of ITIL and industry best practices
  • Ability to document procedures to assist other team members in performing tasks
