My client is a large Defense and Space company based in Newport. They are currently looking for 5X Software Engineers and 5X Senior Software Engineers.
Description of the job
A vacancy for a Software Engineer has arisen in Newport. The successful applicant will join the Equipment & Product Engineering Team.
You will be responsible to the project software team lead for executing allocated Software Work Packages within agreed cost, time and quality constraints.
You will be responsible for designing, implementing and integrating a software module or component as directed by the software team lead. This will include the production of full design documentation and UML models associated with the software module.
The successful candidate will be subject to security clearance in order to undertake related work in accordance with business needs.
You will need to ensure that:
¤ All equipment is designed, developed, integrated and tested in accordance with Defence and Space standards; all supporting documents are produced in accordance with Defence and Space standards.
¤ Tools, methodologies and coding standards are appropriately applied to achieve project aims, in line with direction from the team lead.
¤ Technical design decisions are made within the context of known practices, established precedents and acquired "technical" expertise.
¤ Report to Team Leader or Prime as appropriate.
¤ Take technical and task leadership from team lead
¤ Design, implementation and integration of allocated software modules or components to meet demanding technical, cost, timescale and quality criteria
¤ Communicate effectively with other team members
¤ Be an effective and productive member of the team.
The successful applicant will have the following skills and experience:
¤ Educated to Degree Level (or equivalent) in Software engineering, Essential Experience:
¤ Must have experience of software development and be familiar with a number of software development methodologies
¤ Able to carry out development tasks of up to three months duration with only limited supervision
¤ Must have experience of software component design & implementation for networking communications in a commercial and/or military environment.
¤ Must be familiar with process driven software development
¤ Implementation of embedded real-time software in either C or C++; or implementation of Windows application software in C#
¤ Object oriented analysis, design and development documented using UML
¤ Must have an understanding of requirements implementation and traceability, and of work package definition and estimation
¤ Must be highly self-motivated, articulate, with good verbal and written communications skills Desirable Skills:
¤ Experience of full project lifecycle
¤ Experience of Requirements Management (e.g. using DOORS)
¤ Experience of software implementation of data or voice network protocols (TCP/IP, SNMP, VOIP)
¤ Knowledge of cryptographic techniques and their application in products/systems
¤ Experience of formal software configuration management.
