Role: Service Management SME / Project Manager
Start Date: ASAP
Location: Newcastle with travel to Telford
Duration: 6 months

The Service Management SME/Project Manager will work on an implementation of an ISO/IEC 20000 integrated service management system that delivers IT services to a government organisation.

Duties & Responsibilities

As part of a major transformation programme, the client is enhancing their Service Management portfolio as well as migrating to a new tool. The project is in its infancy and requires a strong project manager to work with the programme manager to implement all elements of the Service Management programme and complete in a timely manner. The Project Manager will be responsible for executing, maintaining, improving the governance of these projects and working directly with the Programme Manager to implement all processes to satisfy key stakeholders.

Working with all members of the project teams, the Project Manager should ensure best practice, risks, issues and cross-Programme dependencies are identified and managed in accordance with governance standards. The PM is responsible for overseeing programme reporting, planning and RAID management within their Programme.


All below activities to be completed:

  • Works directly alongside the programme manager and associated team members to control and maintain the Project Plan, Critical Path, Milestones and Dependencies
  • Produce and/or review status reports, project initiation documents, management dashboards and delivery trackers relating to the Programme project plan, deliverables and status for use within the wider IS team and at senior management meetings
  • Track deliverables and raise concerns or constraints as appropriate
  • Ensure sufficient and appropriately skilled resources are allocated for the duration of the project
  • Propose improvements to Programme governance
  • Responsible for ensuring all risk & issues are logged in accordance with the PMO standards, ensuring that suitable mitigating actions are logged and executed to manage these risks and that escalation occurs where necessary
  • Working closely with other project leads to challenge, understand and manage dependencies for their project
  • Ensure the Stage Gate approach is followed and Stage Gates are aligned with both this and other integrated projects and allow informed decision making across every phase of the project
  • Ensure timely escalation to key stakeholders of issues / risk and blockers.
  • Ensure all documents are signed off as appropriate and that these are uploaded into the shared CAF


  • You will be certified/expert in ITIL and have experience of the implementation of Service management processes into a range of environments
  • Extensive experience of operating across the Service Management Lifecycle
  • Experience of producing clear and concise business cases and PIDs
  • Experience of process implementation and improvement
  • Ability to gather requirements and articulate these to all parties
  • Experience of operating in uncertain environments, providing leadership and guidance
  • Ability to professionally present to both large and small audiences
  • Ability to manage stakeholders at all levels
  • Total Cost of Ownership modelling using cloud-based Technology Business Management software
  • Ability to produce written material (reports, case studies, etc.) to a high standard
  • Familiar with the implications of organisational change and methods of enabling successful change
  • Diverse IT background with significant experience in large scale blue-chip corporations
  • Ability to adapt experience to accommodate diverse scenarios sometimes outside your natural comfort zone


  • Experience of, or exposure to, Agile Project Management, Digital and Cloud implementation
  • Experience in undertaking ITIL Maturity Assessments
  • Project Management certification
