Knowledge, skills and Personal Qualities RequiredKey Accountabilities The successful candidate will have the relevant knowledge, experience and ability to provide the client with the following: * Support the design teams for aircraft surveys * Support to Design Reviews and other meetings including presentations of findings and recommendations * Participate in the delivery of projects, with a primary focus on air structural calculations and analysis, with 5 years' experience. * Accountable for the delivery of own work and that of junior members of the team as agreed with, or as part of, the Project Leadership to the required budgets, standards and specifications. * Ensure that a traceable record is maintained of work conducted. * Ensuring adherence to good working practices and the clients engineering processes. * Lead in improving methods and processes within the team. * Ensuring the appropriate Health, Safety, Security and Quality procedures are adopted and complied with by themselves and staff in their delivery teams. * Bringing level of general knowledge essential to delivery of complex structural modelling problems. The successful candidate will be:Highly skilled in analytical structural analysis techniques.Highly skilled in linear and non-linear structural analysis using FEA.Production of formal calculations and supporting documentation to verify the designs meet the specified environmental requirements.Skilled with progressive failure analysis using FEA.You must be able to work well as part of a team.Must be able to gauge and capture complex customer requirements.Deep understanding of mechanical engineering and structures.Understanding of fatigue analysis.Capable of sourcing and processing of materials data, including composites and non-linear properties.Proactively anticipate possible problems and is in a position to deal with obstacles. Skilled with scripted or macro-driven processing/post-processing.Skilled in advanced usage of MS Office tools e.g. ExcelExperience in MATHCAD, FEMAP/NX NASTRAN and NCode, Solid Edge and Catia preferred.Excellent communication skills, both written and presentational. Ability to exchange complex information and write coherent reports/presentations with minimal rework.Ability to provide and accept constructive challenge.Results-focussed and can demonstrate levels of responsibility and accountability.Methodical and Logical approach, conscientious.High integrity with the ability to manage sensitive information and to form unbiased opinions. Essential QualificationsDegree level qualification or equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering or other suitable discipline.Membership of relevant professional engineering institution or commitment to achieve relevant registration status.Detailed knowledge of FEA tools and techniques.8-15 years of relevant experience in an appropriate engineering role.Detailed Knowledge of maritime structures.Technical understanding of structural fabrication and current maritime construction techniques and materials.Ability to understand and interpret complex engineering drawings.Demonstrable leadership and technical development. Desirable QualificationsExperience of leading a team of stress engineers for larger tasks.Knowledge and understanding of Defence Standard 00-970.Previous experience of checking calculations and sign-off of drawings and engineering queries is advantageous. Previous experience of producing estimates and resource plans to support proposals is advantageous.Previous management experience within an engineering team is advantageous.
