I am recruiting a Senior Safety Engineer to work for a FTSE 250 Engineering Support Services Organisation in Bristol. This role functions within their Marine and Technology Division which provides vital engineering services to key clients, such as the Royal Navy. The business unit is going through a massive period of growth and over the next three to five years will move from being a £100m business with circa 800 staff to a £200m business with 1100 staff.

The main purpose of role is to provide professional engineering support, at a senior level to all activities as directed and you will need to engage with customers to develop and agree unambiguous statement of requirements.

  • Executing duties in accordance with Company procedures for, training, health and safety, personnel, quality and project requirements
  • Preparing and checking safety documentation as required
  • Authorising safety documentation as directed by Supervisor
  • Preparing and facilitating Safety Reviews
  • Management of safety teams as assigned by Supervisor
  • Supervising, planning and controlling work to time, cost and quality
  • Providing professional safety engineering support to surface ship and submarine projects
  • Management of safety teams involved in the preparation of Commercial tenders
  • Preparing safety estimates and schedules
  • Preparing Technical Reviews in support of tender responses requiring safety input
  • Acting as Project Safety Manager responsible to Project Manager for Commercial Projects.

Required Experience

  • Engineering degree or comparable academic standard, in relevant discipline
  • SSMO safety course
  • To hold or be eligible to hold, Chartered Engineer status
  • Membership of relevant professional engineering body
  • A detailed knowledge of Safety Engineering (extensive knowledge of JSP 430 and DEF STAN 00-56)
  • Practical knowledge and experience within Safety Engineering discipline
  • Ability to work within complex multi discipline teams
  • Ability to objectively assess different solutions against acceptance criteria
  • IT capable; Office, CAD, knowledge of software based HAZOP and Hazard Management Tools
