My Edinburgh based client are currently seeking a highly motivated, personable and skilled Linux Engineer to join their growing team. This is a highly creative environment with an incredibly extensive set of tools in use.

What does the role involve?

As the Senior Linux Engineer, you will interact closely with Senior Management and Developers, acting as the tech lead in a team of 4. You will have responsibility for the maintenance of the company's infrastructure and will play a critical role in the continual introduction of new tools; investigating and making recommendations over emerging technology.

What Skills do I require?

  • Linux Systems Administration with Commercial experience, preferably CentOS / RedHat Enterprise Linux and/or Debian.
  • Experience with performance and availability monitoring (for example: Nagios, Cacti, RHQ or Smokeping).
  • Shell scripting skills (Bash / PHP).
  • Windows server administration
  • Basic routing
  • Basic firewalling
  • DNS & DHCP

Beneficial knowledge includes:

  • MySQL administration (queries, maintenance & performance tuning)
  • VPNs (SSL or IPSEC)
  • Linux High Availability (Clusters)
  • Virtualization (VMware ESX / KVM)
  • JBossAS, JBoss EAP or other Java EE container, e.g Tomcat
  • Experience with dynamic routing
  • Network and performance monitoring - Nagios/Icinga, Cacti, Graphite
  • Software packaging
  • VOIP, preferably Asterisk
  • Experience with dynamic routing (RIP & OSPF)
  • Wide area networking
