Senior Java Software Engineer / Developer - Scala, Agile, DevOps, Micro Services Development

Skills and Experience

As a software engineer within the Digital Delivery practice you will be working as part of a multi disciplinary feature team delivering digital by default solutions. You will build and support discrete areas of functionality using techniques such as Behaviour Driven Development, underpinned by robust automated test suites, which enable continuous integration and simplify regression testing.

You will be encouraged to look to the wider community to identify good practices and opportunities for us to adopt them as part of a wider coaching of junior talent role.

Skills and Experience

We are looking for software engineers with a range of experiences and skills such as those listed below:

Technical Skills:

  • Experience of back-end development using at least one JVM based language (e.g. Java, Scala etc).
  • Experience of front-end development using technologies such as (AngularJS, CSS, JavaScript, JQuery, D3/D4, HTML 4/5).
  • Hands on experience of micro service development (e.g. Spring Boot, Dropwizard, NodeJS).
  • Experience of continuous integration and standardised build tools (e.g. Jenkins, Maven, Gradle).
  • Experience of API first strategies.
  • Demonstrate effective usage of SCM (e.g. Git, SVN).
  • Practical experience of *NIX based CLI

Methodologies / Architectural experience:

  • Agile development (e.g. SCRUM).
  • DevOps practices.
  • Microservice based architectures
  • Reactive web design.

Behaviours:

  • Promote and encourage both intra and inter team discussions on technologies and approaches, which can help increase both effectiveness and efficiency of the organisation.
  • Deliver technical content to both technical and non-technical audiences alike.
  • Collaborate on technical content such as designs and patterns via appropriate tools such as Confluence.
