Senior Firmware Engineer - SC Preferred - 6 Month Contract - Malvern

My client is looking for a highly experienced Senior Firmware Engineer an initial 6-month contract based in Malvern. The role is full time on site, and the client can offer a competitive daily rate.

  • The client supports the delivery of secure navigation systems that can be depended on when accurate navigation, positioning and/or timing is mission-critical. Working as part of a team of engineers and scientists from across the business they'll look to you to provide firmware design solutions that will be delivered into the next generation of multi-constellation, multi-frequency Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) Receivers
  • You'll play a vital role towards FPGA/ASIC solutions for navigation and cryptographic devices, initially working towards design assurance of a mature design, but with future opportunity to contribute across the engineering lifecycle -including specification, design, development, integration, testing and certification.

As part of this role you'll:

  • Work with the Project Design Authority for all firmware related activities
  • Work towards design assurance through review of design, review of verification, implementation of additional verification to increase the level of design assurance
  • Provide advice and support to the wider team of developers to ensure the team are producing firmware that meets DO254 DAL C (and parts of B) standard, including providing the necessary evidence towards SOI reviews.
  • Plan your work effectively, including the breakdown of problems into manageable work packages
  • Accurately cost up work and manage associated risks
  • Produce written documentation (including presentation material) of technical work in accordance with project requirements

The Fit

  • As well as a degree in electronics, electrical engineering or a related subject, you'll need to have experience of designing and implementing complex firmware solutions in FPGA
  • You will have direct experience working to DO254 standards, be able to apply it to review of existing implementation to determine if this is enough to achieve DO254 DALC/B.
  • Alongside that, whilst not essential, we'd be very interested in hearing from candidates with any of the following:
  • Experience of GNSS, and/or security architectures relevant to receiver developments.
  • Knowledge of RF and radio signal performance/propagation issues.
  • Knowledge/experience and knowledge of crypto security design including crypto algorithms, anti-tamper technologies etc
  • Experience of specifying, designing, verifying and testing ASICs
  • Ability to engineer software to support system development/testing in appropriate languages including C++, C and assembly language.
  • Experience using Mentor Graphics DxDesigner and Expedition PCB
  • Experience of using DOORS.
  • Ability to use supporting tools such as Matlab for solution modelling and verification.
  • Be able to lead and/or mentor the wider team to help improve design assurance levels.
