The Senior Drilling Engineer is responsible for the technical performance, operational efficiency and cost effectiveness of the Company's abandonment operations. The activities will be conducted in accordance with all relevant Regulatory requirements plus the Weill Operator's standards and policies. The candidate will work for and closely with, the Drilling Superintendent / Project Manager in reviewing the proposed work, compiling the well abandonment design & programmes, operational issues and cost & time estimates.


  • The development of high quality project plans which include cost estimates, schedules, and resources to design and compile well abandonment programmes.
  • Together with the Well Intervention Engineer and Sub-sea Engineer, will be responsible for the planning and execution of slick line and wireline operations, electric line operations in cased hole, de-completions, coil tubing operations, setting abandonment plugs, section milling, tree recoveries and wellhead severances.
  • Responsible for the development of well abandonment plans for challenging or complex well abandonment's including over-pressured, deviated, horizontal or tired wells.
  • Alternate for Drilling Superintendent as required - a good knowledge of all types of rigs is preferred.
  • Maintains and updates Policies, and Operations Procedures relating to the well abandonment's


  • Ideally 10 years in a similar role for Oil & Gas Operators
  • Suitable tertiary education in Engineering
  • Hands on well-site experience on both floating and fixed installations
  • Detailed knowledge of all aspects of drilling engineering topics and operations including well de-complete and plug & abandonment operations.
  • Good knowledge of subsurface issues
  • In depth knowledge of appropriate legislation
  • Planning, cost management, and logistics knowledge and awareness
  • Appropriate training in accordance with Well Operator's competency matrix, with Well Control being an advantage
