West Midlands Base Preferred - WFH Role (was WFH pre Covid and will be WFH post Covid)

Global company are seeking to onboard a Senior DevOps Engineer / SRE to enhance their capability and push their highly successful business model into 2022 and 2023.

Focusing on modernisation you will coexist in an R&D and Product Team, working in a small autonomous team which fit into strategically aligned workstreams. The ideal person will include someone with SRE experience or who can undertake Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) requirements to take a lead role on this adventure.

This cross-functional remit is to offer a clear strategic priorities for building several new cross-functional Teams On a day-to-day basis as you will be tasked to deliver enhancements and new features to achieve your stream's business goals.

To be considered for this role - Your Key Experience will consist of:

  • Software Engineering, DevOps, Ansible, Python, Docker, Python, C#, Java
  • Previous experience in a Site Reliability Engineer or similar role
  • Experience with configuration management such as Ansible
  • Understanding of containerisation concepts such as Docker
  • Experience of global data management (DBA, monitoring, backup, etc.)
  • Solid Systems Admin and networks capabilities (TCP/IP, Firewalls etc)
  • Exposure to incident response processes and scenarios
  • Engineering skills using one or more programming languages such as Python, C#, Java etc.
  • Experience running mission-critical services in production is a major plus
  • Linux / UNIX system administration.
  • Use of modern CI/CD tools for delivery and automation such as Azure DevOps
  • Familiarity with the latest compute, load balancing and scaling, storage, networking, security and virtualization
  • technologies
  • Experience mentoring and working closely with more junior colleagues
  • Experience administering and supporting relational and NoSQL databases
  • Experience in and knowledge of developing and testing transactional websites, data-driven web publishing, content management systems.
  • Enable continuous improvement of security process and guidelines with Security team
  • Support implementation of secure design principles according to policies and standards of Information Security

The functional challenges of this role encompass:

  • Working within small multi-disciplined teams/squads to provide constant availability of our services; relied upon by 150,000+ users worldwide.
  • Using software development techniques and experience to diagnose & solve operational (application, architectural & infrastructure) problems. Generally, this role will be 50% writing code to automate processes and 50% investigating issues and supporting their resolution.
  • Due to the nature of this role, you may sometimes be required to provide on-call cover to support any critical missions or incidents and work closely with our dedicated support teams and lead blameless retrospectives with the goal of discovering the best approach to prevent future occurrences of the same issue.
  • Driving non-functional requirements such as alerting, monitoring, security and performance of our services
  • Support implementation of secure design principles according to policies and standards of Information Security
