Job Title: Senior Buyer, Strategic Procurement SF 27396Location: DevonportJob SpecificationRole DescriptionDue to significant growth we are recruiting a Senior Buyer to join our Strategic Procurement Team based in Devonport Royal Dockyard, Plymouth.Defence Systems Technology (DST) is a business unit within the Marine and Technology Division of Babcock International Group. Working on a range of exciting design, manufacture and support projects, DST works with a number of key clients domestically and internationally. The business continues to win new work and grow at a significant pace, as a result we are recruiting for talented, enthusiastic and driven people.In this role you will help generate significant value for the business by designing supply chains that align with the business needs, developing key supplier relationships to increase performance and by providing enabling elements that ensure on time delivery as well as reducing the total cost of bought in goods and services.ResponsibilitiesNegotiate Contract Terms and Conditions both for materials and servicesAnalyse supply routes, procurement spend and capability requirements and seek to introduce the most cost effective contracting routeUse contracts to stimulate the potential for innovation, best practice ways of working and encourage mutually beneficial supplier relationships.Manage key suppliersPrepare and issue Invitations to Tender or requests for quotations. Chairing tender opening meetings, bid clarification meetings with Tenderers and start-up meetings. Systematically evaluate competing offers and present recommendations to stakeholdersNegotiate competitive prices often against a background of demanding target savings and sole source suppliers.Prepare bid evaluation reports, and in particular carry out Commercial Evaluation of tenders.Work with other stakeholders to create strategic sourcing arrangements in support of business objectives.Manage contracts of significant value and impact and ensure delivery of performance and benefits.Required Experience / Qualifications / AttributesAble to work with and influence key stakeholders and suppliers towards results delivery.Appropriate level of experience in procurement or acquisition of goods and services.A recognised degree level qualification and/or relevant engineering/supply chain/lean culture experience is desirableMembership of a relevant professional body e.g. CIPS is desirable, willingness to undertake this training is essential.Working knowledge of strategic sourcing, contract management and supplier developmentAble to confidently negotiate and agree terms and conditions and contractual arrangements.Experience of managing and developing relationshipsAbility to negotiate favourable solutions in a single source and competitive environmentsData gathering and manipulation and analytical skillsSound commercial awareness and business environment experienceBenefitsAt Babcock we're committed to providing a great employee experience in a supportive and engaging environment.
