Scrum Master - Agile, Kanban, TDD, Scrum, Sprints

Location: Telford

Duration: 6 Months

The Scrum Master enables a multi-disciplinary team to successfully deliver a new service and to support existing services. They remove obstacles, or blockers to progress, constantly helping the team to become more self-organising. They communicate with colleagues and customers alike, sharing ideas, skills and experience to ensure the whole team performs to its best.

Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering software development projects using the appropriate Agile methodology;
  • Organising and facilitating project planning, daily stand-up meetings, reviews, retrospectives, sprint and release planning and demos;
  • Ensuring Agile processes are followed and that the team(s) are practising the core principles of collaboration, prioritisation, team accountability and visibility;
  • Updating Agile tracking systems to provide transparency on Product and Sprint Backlogs;
  • Recommending improvements and assisting in changes to best practice;
  • Supporting development managers and project leads as necessary;
  • Assisting with internal and external communication to improve transparency and share information;
  • Assisting the team(s) with making appropriate commitments through story selection, task definition
  • Identifying and removing impediments and preventing distractions that interfere with the ability of the team(s) to deliver sprint goals;
  • Facilitating discussion and conflict resolution;
  • Empowering the team(s) to self-organise;
  • Improving the productivity of the team(s);
  • Adapting project plans, schedules and resource assignments as required to respond to emerging requirements and risks
  • Working closely with the Product Manager to define the roadmap for a service;
  • Collaborating with colleagues to refine our approach to Agile project management and service development;
  • Providing coaching, mentoring knowledge transfer to colleagues and team members.

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate experience in the following key disciplines:

  • The role of Scrum Master;
  • Agile methodologies (TDD, SCRUM, Kanban, etc) and developing product roadmaps, backlogs and measurable success criteria, and of writing user stories, i.e. can establish a path to delivery for breaking down stories;
  • Working within an agile, multi-disciplinary team environment, and delivering iterative design components (including user journeys) to a development team;
  • Very strong technical background, either as a Business Analyst, Software Developer, Quality Analyst or Project Manager;
  • All aspects of software delivery and lifecycle, from inception to delivery;
  • Outstanding communication skills: Tailoring communication to both business and technical audiences and to various roles and levels in the organization. Delivering visual and written communication as well as verbal and white-board skills;
  • Collaboration tools ideally Confluence and Jira; and Service Oriented Architecture.
  • Ideally, the successful candidate will also demonstrate experience in the following disciplines:
  • Integration middleware, messaging, ESB, API management common web application/integration architectures;
  • Application programming, security, operations, networking and APIs and API design.
